LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #46

My fiance has finally decided when/where/how she wants the wedding and honeymoon..... I've got 2 months to gather the funds!! Going straight to the 'bay for quicker sells. Got 2 listed so far, will probably list 2 more soon...

Congrats, and condolences(on having to sell the basses).
I hated selling Midas to buy my kids graduation gifts.

Which ones are you selling? Where is the wedding?

So far, Shadowfax and the Rootbeer Decade w/ Goblin, Kobol, & the Tele as possibilities. As you can see, since I'm not using the 4s, they're expendable. And, I love Shadowfax but figure it'll sell quick. So...

And, I can't tell the location of the wedding yet since the families haven't been told and their responses will be .

Trust me, you don't really want to see his head/face. He looks an awful lot like his 'ole man:p
In actuality, he's just too cool for pics.

Yep, I was thinking "too cool" too, hehe.

Thanks!

About the basses... I honestly HATE having basses that don't get played! Even showing them to other players is bittersweet... I'm not into showing things off, but my awe for Lakland's awesomeness and the stories behind the rarer ones get me talking like a kid w/ his new Christmas toys, LOL. But, I always get asked if I ever play them, and I feel like I'm wasting a perfectly GREAT bass that deserves to sing :hmm:.

I paid for and had the Decade setup for BEAD tuning something like 6 weeks before it was delivered. At the time, Third Obsession seemed near death and I had joined the metal band just to have something to do. All of my 4s could've been used for the metal drop-tuned stuff. Now, T.O. is back together and I've quit everything else. I could use the BEAD 4s for some T.O stuff, but there's no real need.

Well, it's been a year since my son recieved his Lakland 44-02. He's still rockin' it hard and loving it(and getting pretty darned good at playing it too:hyper:) Here's a pic.....

when you can tell us...DO! we may just have to CRASH! imagine a LOG version of "Big Bottom"! (ALL - if you are not familiar - you SHOULD be! google "spinal tap big bottom".....basses galore!)

sorry to hear about the basses being "wasted"....if it were your 55-94 being sold I MAY have been PMing you!

Number, please! I just traded my trusty L2000 for this very sweet 44-02 Deluxe from Dan in FL!

There's something of an amusing story to be had here. When I was first contacted by this 44-02's previous owner Dan (whose TB handle is Lakin757), I was stunned. Obviously, I was talking with Dan Lakin, one of Lakeland's founders!! I was a bit confused why he might want to trade a 44-02 for a G&L but hey, we all like a little variety in life, right? (This was before I learned that Mr. Lakin had recently sold the company!) Anyway, in my next PM I go on and on about how much I'd always wanted to own one of his basses based on their excellent reputation, yada yada. I'm sure Dan must've given pause to the idea of doing the trade as he was obviously dealing with an idiot/crackpot. In the end we shared a good laugh - it turns out he was indeed NOT Lakeland's Dan Lakin and, in fact, his TB handle was entirely coincidental.

Don't you love it when 2 + 2 = 5? :D

Well... I don't wanna be as big a collector as I have been lately! I'm running out of room honestly.

And as for my 55-94s, I told my daughter and my fiance that if they ever see me selling Traci and Sexual Chocolate... I'm done. I'll be quitting bass playing for good!

Congrats! Great bass, and I love the cherryburst finish.

That is a funny story, indeed. I know I did a doubletake when I saw that TB handle and he signed one post "Dan".:D

Send a PM to basspraiser for a number (though he's out of town for a couple weeks) and check out Link Removed for more info and discussion.

Just a question... Maybe it's a visual issue... Are Skyline DD/DJ/JoBo headstocks exactly like US are? I see a little difference in US shape, maybe more... I really don't know.
Hey Josep, there is a difference--the US headstocks are thicker. I believe they're exactly the same shape, though.:)

Who gets those? To prefect em and such correct? Doude? Marcus?

Nope!

Anybody have information on these "new" basses? It seems to me just like a Decade with an MM style cover on the CS pick ups? That's the only difference listed on the Lakland website. Does this mean the original Decade is getting discontinued?

Yes...everything is the same, but the pickup covers.

I just took delivery of my first Lakland, a 55-01 fretless in black :) It needed a good setup but now she absolutely kills through my eden wt550 410 rig.

Nice!

Ok. I just ordered a 5494 34" and glaub PJ 34" from Brian Barrett at the LowEnd. John decided to build some after Brian talk to him at Summer Namm. Brian told how much buisness he has turned away because they only make 5 string Lak's in 35". So, thank Mr. Barrett for his kind words also. LOL Brian's will be the first ones to come actually from Lakland.

Awesome man!

Played my '06 Glaub I bought from teamtrejo fo the first time with the full band at practice last night...

Man, everyone LOVED it. The look, the tone, everything. I really, really like this bass. It really shined when we did some Black Joe Lewis. It went POW upside everyone's head.

Thanks again, Trejo!

Don't you just love that feeling!

Someone want to chime in here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=675395

Markus? Terry? Other folks who have owned Darkstars and Chis?

Just did!

"rare skill" ???? not really...that title belongs to Markus! I am just "lucky - right place right time...empty wallet"....LOL!

I seem to forget the "empty wallet" part and have to EXPLAIN it when i get home!

Ha! There's quite a few rare Lakys floating around here!

He he he! Funny! Nice bass man!

I emailed Brian and Carl if I could have a J pickup installed in the LOG LE BG5 at extra charge, and then strange things started to happen. Like, Carl wouldn't answer (would that be the first time in existance?), Brian forwarded my question to me to answer (myself obviously) and then Leo chimed in and said that they didn't offer that option. I wrote him again to clarify that I was asking about aftermarket job and he told me to check with a local guitar repair shop... Geez, did martians take over Lakland or something? :rollno:

Does anybody know if skyline bg5s will have that option?
I really don't know a person/shop in the proximity of 200 miles or so whom I'd enjoy to hack a Lakland for me.

That's strange, Denis. I'm not sure why they wouldn't be able to just pass it on to Carl for modding when it's done. Maybe there are complications with the billing and shipping? I dunno. See if you can get a hold of Carl.

Hi. I'm back in the fold. My question is, and sorry if it's already been done, but how much of a difference is there between a USA and a Skyline? I know how they are made and such, but is a USA Lakland worth that much more than a Skyline? As far as playability and sound goes. I only have the 55-02 right now, but down the road, I'm looking to get a USA model. Just curious on any input.
