Okay, so I'm ordering one of these today. I can't decide between the rosewood and maple. They both have a cool mojo happening. I had rosewood on both my DJ's. The maple would be a new thing for me, but I just can't make up my mind!

I'd go with maple, Jason. I've seen the prototypes for both; the pearl blocks look really nice, but the black blocks are very cool and fairly unusual.

Agreed! Lakland did, however, take a cue from that idea and came out with limited edition runs of teal Glaubs and JOs with and without blocks this year.

I'd go for maple. Looks fab and will give you the maple snap, which, in my opinion can liven up the P bass just a little.

IMO and all that...

These axes are going to be so damned pretty.

That is why the P is louder than the J.
So why is the blended position quieter than the P?
Well, in this position there are cancellations of different mid frequencies (sorry, I am not a native english speaker). That makes this position sound quieter (and more modern some might say).

I remedied/minimized the volume difference by lowering the P pickup into the body.

As for the buzzing noise I can't offer any help, sorry.

Thank you for your thoughts on my 2002 BG PJ's issues, gillento, and your English is great.

I like your theories, but a 10-12 db difference between soloing the P pickup and soloing the J pickup seem pretty extreme to me. But, again, this is my first PJ bass.

I have a Pj with NONE of the issues you mention...mine has a "matched set" of Nordys (meaning the J is also a split coil to keep hum to a minimum).....

Thank you, Doug. I've seen references to "carl@chicagobassdoctor" before in these LOG threads. May I ask who Carl is? He's obviously from Chicago and someone who works on basses. :p Is he affiliated with Lakland? Does he work on just Laklands or other basses, too?

I'm just curious as to whom I'd be contacting.

Carl was the head luthier at Lakland. Started his own business but has his own space in the Lakland shop essentially. He is THE MAN when it comes to Laklands!

+1. He was the head luthier for a long time, until last year. He still does warranty and other work for Lakland and his office is about 100 feet across a warehouse floor from them.:)

ETA: Forgot to add, Carl is a great guy and a great craftsman. Any work I need done on basses (Lakland or not), any advice I want on potential mods, I go to him.

That's a great DVD, isn't it?

Cool that you got the Schaller straplocks (and authentic!) but I stuck with the Dunlops for mine, they're just what I prefer and are on all my straps. Speaking of which, I hope to have something very cool to share with you ShowKing since I'll bet you will appreciate it!

Wow thanks for that. I shall revisit his blog and check it out.
Interesting how he has his ramps on it, couldn't notice it on the dvd.
I'd be so interested to hear the full story about how the 55-69 got approved by lakland etc etc

The dvd is really good, I like how they mixed it with rehearsal footage, etc.

I just prefer the way schaller strap locks look compared to the flat and round dunlop ones. Both are superb choices of strap locks imo any way :)
