Its not a Mopar color actually. Pat finished the color today and it has the right effect. He reports its a std black/maple in the shadows and a deep, deep purple under the lights. Headstock done too. Man....... I cant wait to have my "JIII-X" back! ( Jauqo hooked me up with it direct from ChiTown!)

Anyway, its the bass in the avatar. Hope its new look as it huge as its vintage sound!

Jeff, is it the shapes that you dont like? I did prefer the Jbass style body over the modern Lakland style.

Man that sounds VERY cool! I had a Stingray in Burnt Apple, which is like a redish-sparkle burst, and the outside area was like that. It looked black, but in light it was a deep purple. Beautiful!!! Deep Purple... it can be your Highway Star!

"crap, horrible"? Really? I haven't seen any bass in my four years on this site that would make me use those words other than a few Ebay jokes and some modifications gone very, very wrong. If you don't like them, fine, but try to be a little more tolerant and a little less dramatic and harsh.

Honestly, I was like you for a long time. I really couldn't stand the look of "classic" looking basses like Fenders, Lakland, etc. Then one day I woke up and found that all of a sudden I had developed a huge desire to look at, play, and own one. So I browsed for awhile before finally buying my DJ. Whether or not you like the look of these basses (now, at least), I can say that they play and SOUND awesome.

You know, I don't like everything that Lākland does (for instance, I seem to be the only person in existence who actively dislikes the Lākland Hollowbody. And don't get me started about the pretentiousness of sticking the word 'Custom' on an off-the-shelf model), but even if I didn't own or like anything by the company, I wouldn't come onto a thread where the guys clearly love them, and trash the basses in such a crass manner.

Friendly advice: In the future, have the basic respect to not spew vitriolic crap about a bass make on a thread populated by that maker's fans. You'll get better answers by asking better questions, and you'll be lambasted as a troll for continuing in the current vein.

Gimme a horrible looking bass that plays and sounds great over a flashy bass sound that sounds like crap...

I think pickups play a part in the sound of the B, single coil Js compared to humbuckers for instance. But, 35" scale helps immensely IMO, others will disagree. I should say though, that the typical listener won't be able to tell a 34" B from a 35". So, I now have a BEAD tuned 34" Decade and I love it!

Thanks for your answer. I have only owned 1 34" 5ver that cut it for me, and a previous same make/model did not.
Lakland 35" 5vers get er done.

The more I thought about my reponse to Jeff, the more I realized "thar might be a troll in the woods'. I mean, com'on, I've leafed through these pages, and as much as I'm anticipating the new skin of the JO5, there's some beautiful stuff here.

And sorry to seem adolescent, but I dig those Brits. Two of them specifically. Sir Paul, who hooked me on bass, and Geezer Butler, whose every line I copped as a punk arse kid. ( like 10) I STILL play like Geezer used to. :hiding:

Methinks Mr. Butler digs those Lakland J basses too.

Most awesome bass porn Lakland, most awesome!
