LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #49

Was thinking of adding an Audere JZ3 pre-amp to my 55-60 . . . thoughts anyone?

I installed an Audere in my Lakland 55-60 (It was a JO5 actually) My initial impressions were favorable in that it is very transparent and thus doesn't alter the tone at all in its "neutral" setting.

Over time however, I found very little use for the different "Z" settings. The hi is so bright that I could only see it helpful in very specific cases. The low Z setting does extend the low end, but it was far too unfocused and booming for my taste.

The EQ was OK but no nearly as musical or natural sounding as some others I have used.

If I was going to make another jazz bass active, I would use either the Nordstrand or the Sadowsky preamp. I find their voicings to be ideal.

No matter what preamp I installed, I would certainly prefer it have active bypass both for variety and emergent use. The Audere doesn't have that ability.

Great points Charles and very helpful. By the way I use a Mesa M9 head which is clean, punchy and articulate. My cabs are either a Berg HS410 or Genz Benz Uber410. Again both punchy articulate cabs. Maybe setting the mids at a different frequency will help. Thanks Charles.

Thanks guys . . . I use an all-Eden rig and love it's warm sounds. I also really love the tone of my Fender MIA Jazz (4) and want to keep it with the 55-60, but have the ability of changing up the sound on the fly w/o going to pedals . . . thought a pre-amp would do it!

In regards to the Neo-Punch, I love it in my new p-bass. It's thick and warm, but it can be in your face like crazy when digging in and opening it up all of the way(which I rarely do).

Just ordered a 55-60 to go with my 55-02. Too bad I have to wait until probably July for it to be ready.

I just keep playing this one for now.

I have one in my JO5.

Love it!

It's extremely high quality and well made, took less than 10 minutes to install.

Low noise and neutral tone, just clean boost for the most part.
Every tone is usable not matter how extreme you set them.

I run in low Z all the time playing live, it's a thick, punchy tone.
I've used it with Lakland pickups and Nordstrand 70's pickups.
Both were a slice of sonic heaven with the Audere.

I get an excellent Reggae dub tone with the highs and mids rolled off.

I also use a scooped mids Marcus Miller tone which growls like a freaking tiger.

I would recommend Audere to anyone who wants to hear their bass and pickups.

Only improvement I could suggest would be the addition of another 9 volt battery, but of could it wouldn't fit in the jazz plate...

Thanks for the input on the Audere.

UPS just delivered my Skyline 55-60 Custom . . . as soon as I can put it down for some time, I'll take a few pics. Nice case too!

Love the setup on it . . . I doubt that I can get a credit card in anywhere, yet no buzz . . . AND it sounds awesome through my Eden rig!

I will try the Audere, or one of them, as I would like a passive 'on' option!

Nice avatar pic there Rumble ;):D.
What, that old thing? It's just a little something-something I had laying around and took a quick photo of. That's all...
Uh huh. Later, I noticed something missing from your signature.;)
So who's going to spill the beans, Markus or Gordon? I'm rather curious as to what's going on...
Elementary, my dear Luke. Use your powers of deduction.;)

Vince, congrats man! Make sure you log on to Link Removed and post pics in the Maternity Ward section.

As for the Audere, I just installed one in my DJ5. Man, it is great. You don't have the all-passive switch, but with everything flat and in the middle Z position, I find it to be real close to its original passive sound. Go for it!
