Originally, there was a "Trade feeler" post posted on the LOG forum by Markus. There were several replies before Markus had second thoughts and the thread ended up being locked down by an admin. Afterwards, Markus and I had a PM thread in reference to another unique Lakland bass we both stumbled on that was on the block on TB at the time. A few comments form both sides reignited the discussion about the his "trade feeler" on the LOG. We both came to an agreement and that's about all there was to it.

We both shipped the basses on the same day and both were estimated to be delivered in four days. Luck would have it, I ended up receiving the 4-07 a day early before Markus received mine.

I was a bit hesitant to post a reveal before he received my bass. It didn't seem fair form my point of view. As a subtle clue, Markus suggested that I change my avatar image without comments to see who was paying attention. JJ should receive an award for posting the first suspicion inquiry (within minutes) quickly followed by Greg and then others. If you know me well enough from previous postings, you'd understand how difficult it was for me not to respond directly.

I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone with the apparent "secrecy" of the deal in the works.

Roles reversed, there's no way I would have been able to keep it a secret as well as you two.

Great looking bass . . . CONGRATS . . .

Received my 55-60 Wed, fiddled with it and my rig that afternoon . . . took it out playing last night (three hours) . . . fit me like a glove . . . is 1/2 pound lighter than my MIA Fender Jazz bass 4 string. My shoulder loved it. Love the Rotosound strings that came with it. I fiddled with the knobs and EQ on my rig quite a few times trying to get 'the sound' that I wanted, and ended up with a sound that 180 degrees different than the sound I get from my Fender. Instead of a nice low bassy sound, it's more of a mid/treble sound, yet the bass comes through quite clearly! Great bass to slap with . . . neck is very fast . . . action is incredible . . . used the B string a lot. My only complaint is that I get a "warble-like" sound out of the pickups while playing down in the lower frets . . . like the first two or three frets . . . it just could be my technique . . . even after checking the pup heights according to the Carl Pedigo tapes. I actually went through a complete setup on the bass . . . only one string was slightly out of intonation using the 5th/15th fret intonation notes. I'll give it some break in time. So far though . . . I love it!

IMO that warble sound comes from the strings.
I get the same thing with D'addario nickels.
Not that it stops me from using them.

I've never gotten the warble from Lakland, MTD or Dunlop strings.

Change the strings; I bet cha the warble will go away...

Edit: That's right Markus... I use Dunlop strings (DOH!)

You could try a thin shim under the treble side of the neck at the pocket - would require removing the neck and reattaching it. Or, maybe loosening up on the trussrod - which would bring the whole neck forward at the head, - maybe not what you want.

Other-wise, contact Carl the "Chicago Bass Doctor" for advise/service to see if anything can be done or if replacement of the neck is required at this point.

Thanks for the input. It's under warranty so I'll send it back if I have to... just want to make sure it is indeed warped

If you mean "twisted", I can't see it in the pic at all. I'd carefully sight down each edge of the fretboard to see if the relief is the same. Also, lay the bass flat on it's back and sight down the fretboard from behind the bridge... the frets should all look nice and parallel. If they look like a banked curve (ala NASCAR track) then it's warped.

The tuner placement/headstock shape, and the way the nut will be taller at the B string and shorter at the G can trick your eye into thinking there's a twist. I was fooled this morning when I sighted down my Stingray's neck.... my heart skipped a few beats. Luckily, it's straight as an arrow.

JJ, take another look... The head appears to be off-plane from the body of the bass...

(poor photo editing, I know...)

I almost see it Gordon, but I've had a twisted neck JO5 that (strangely) played perfectly. It was much more dramatic looking.

Compare the headstock to the tabletop which the bass is laying on.
