LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #50!!!

Promised macri a shot of my DJ5 with the East j retro deluxe plate attached. I like the curve to the original DJ plate a bit better, but didn't mind a bit not having to drill two small holes for the switches! ;) In this shot is my DIY carbon fiber pickguard as well. Like the jazz plate, it's not perfect, but I like it well enough to let it hang around for a while.

And the updated family snapshot. All four of my girls, my Ritter, DJ5 and their poor but fun cousin, cortney, she may not be high class, but she plays easy and sounds just fine. Zelda is the den mother, she runs the other three around town for me.:D

Hey guys, I'm looking to order some strings for my 5501 coming in. What do you guys use to string through the body of the 35 inch scale? I usually use Dunlops, any idea if they will fit?

DK about the Dunlops, but D'addarios will fit, but you need the "super long scale" for string thru on the 35". Lots of discussion on the LOG about string-thru and which strings fit, you might find answer there.

Dunlops would have to top load on a 5. A string I'm having fun with is Fender tapewounds. Nice throughout the spectrum and not much fret noise at all. And cheap!!

hmm...i'm not sure if these will work for me. my primary gigs are church services/praise and worship and i need that roundwound sound. do you lose much brightness/clarity?

how much longer will they last? i get about a month out of the Dunlops.

i really like the tone of the dunlops and i may have to just not string through the body. i don't guess there is that much difference it's just an option i've always used and thought it helped with the tension.

You could string them though the center of the Earth and Dunlops would still be low tension.

If you want higher tension, look for hex core strings. D'Addario makes a perfectly serviceable hex core set of super long nickels (EXL170-5SL) that are ~$24 set. Personally, on my active bass I like light gauge hex cores (I use the Lakland nickels), but have medium/hex for everything.

Not at all...they are surprisingly clear. They don't have the roundwould top zing though. Although...they have lots of top.

Don't get me wrong...Love Dunlops too! I have them on my neo-punched 44-64.

My favorite nickels for sure! I don't think there is a difference in tone going top load as apposed to through the body.

Look into Circle K strings. You have to order online, and they're a bit pricey, but man they are the best strings I've used. They're pretty bright at first, but when they break in they have a really pleasing sound to them.

It's real silver sprayed in multiple layers of clear (has a 3D appearance up close), "beaded" texture on a white background w/ a black layer underneath. Looks different from side angles but it sparkles no matter where you're at. I'm loving it!

Mike Quick realgoldinc.com , he now has a 44-02 and Stingray Classic templates ;-D and he already has some other Lakland guards available. He uses different karats of white and yellow gold, silver and copper to make some wicked designs. And he offers 3 different spray patterns over multitudes of colored backgrounds, even bursts.
