He uses different karats of white and yellow gold, silver and copper to make some wicked designs. And he offers 3 different spray patterns over multitudes of colored backgrounds, even bursts.

To all. For those that remember a few pages back I ordered replacement tuners for my Skyline 44-60. I purchased the U.S.A. Hipshot Ultralights and the X-Tender. The x-tender fit with no problem as it included an extra ferrel that was a tad smaller, as a couple of you mentioned would be a problem. (Wish Lakland had mentioned that when I emailed them, but they can't read my mind so no worries). Obviously the other 3 tuners will not fit without the smaller ferrel, which I am sure I can order - original ferrels are different thread than the US hipshot so can't reuse. No big deal to me because the USA hipshots are so much higher quality than the Licensed. I know the licensed work just fine, but I really prefer the smoother feel and quality of the USA version. The licensed just really feel cheap to me, IMHO. I also prefer the chrome finish on them; for some reason I always hated that brushed aluminum used on Lakkies. Don't know why.:eyebrow: I do like the tapered shafts, but find it no problem to make sure the string bottoms out when installing, small detail really.
I will say that as each day goes by I really feel that this bass is just fantastic, love the trans-white finish, great tone, love the smooth fretwork on the edges and the plek job seems to really work out well. Nice instrument and a good price. :bassist:

After a couple days playing my new 55-60CS, I'm extremely happy. Yes, it looks amazing, but the tone is exactly what I was looking for. I'm so glad I went with the Chi-Sonic upgrade. They still have the jazz bass vibe but so much more. They are more aggressive and ridiculously punchy compared to the traditional jazz-style pickups I've played in the past. I have a Sadowsky outboard pre-amp box that I was thinking about using with the bass but the output is so hot and sounds so great, I don't think the bass needs it. I'm also loving the stack knobs they installed for me and the neck plays like a dream, perfectly setup! Consider me a new fan, and I'm sure this won't be my last Lakland.

Excellent, man! That's great news. I have a JO with single-coil Chis as well and agree with your impressions completely.

Since you mentioned this, and Greg seems to agree, I am quite curious. I've never heard the Chi singles in person, but all the clips I've heard of them, even on the Lakland website, sound much thicker and deeper, with less upper mid attack. As such, I tend to describe them as "less aggressive" because of this. They seem to be warmer and fuller. Does this seem to be the case for you, such that I'm just using the word aggressive differently than you are?

To my ears, the Chi-Sonic pickups are certainly thicker and deeper, but they also have this aggressive "snarl" in the low-mids that sounds killer. They almost sound active, although the highs seem a little more polite. I hope that makes sense. :bassist:

Well said. Sometimes I want to dial in a little more treble for the full-on aggressive sound, but they're killer as is.

Ah, okay. So you guys hear them as more low-mid aggressive than high-mid aggressive, which is how they sound in the clips to me. Cool! Just making sure I wasn't missing something by not hearing them in person. I'd still love to do that some day.

Yes. For some reason, the Chis sound significantly better to me in person than they do in the clips--whereas the other Lakland basses/pups sound almost dead-on with the clips, in my experience.

Do any of you have any pics of a JO or a 44-60 with a Birds eye board and ebony BLOCK inlays?

Does that option exist in the USA realm?

I am thinking about ordering a USA and I'd love for it to look similar to a 75 Jazz. ( I know, I am shallow). I also assume if the USA team did up a 75 type bass it would be completely amazing, as they use ebony and Birds Eye maple as opposed to plain maple and plastic.
