Do any of you have any pics of a JO or a 44-60 with a Birds eye board and ebony BLOCK inlays?

Does that option exist in the USA realm?

I am thinking about ordering a USA and I'd love for it to look similar to a 75 Jazz. ( I know, I am shallow). I also assume if the USA team did up a 75 type bass it would be completely amazing, as they use ebony and Birds Eye maple as opposed to plain maple and plastic.

A JO with maple and ebony blocks can certainly be done in a US version. I don't recall seeing one offhand, but I bet there's a few out there.

I have a US Glaub/44-60 with a J-width neck with birdseye maple and ebony blocks, and it's absolutely killer. Best neck I've ever played. Here it is with its Dark Star cousin, a Skyline HB, followed by a close-up of the board.

It's real silver sprayed in multiple layers of clear (has a 3D appearance up close), "beaded" texture on a white background w/ a black layer underneath. Looks different from side angles but it sparkles no matter where you're at. I'm loving it!

Thanks, man! I feel very fortunate to have it. The neck was originally part of a Lakland built for Adam Clayton, but I think he decided against it. A Lakland tech then put it together with the gold body for personal use, then it was owned by a couple TBers before falling into my hands.

If, by chance, you decide you can't go the US route, those "AC"-style DJs like Chasarms' are a great way to go! You won't get the birdseye or the other US Lakland niceties, but they're excellent basses at a nice price.

I have one that Carl made for me recently. It's pretty much exactly what you think it is as far as being a LH-3 in a box but with one exception, it does not have the mid frequency select switch board. I don't know what the mid is centered at though. There is also a tuner out. It does not have a DI out, in case you were wondering.

It is a pretty big (tall) box so you can easily put it behind another pedal and not worry about hitting it.

The thing I love about it is that it is still very musical even at the high extremes of the settings. I run my Squier CV 60's P through it and it just comes alive.

EDIT: When I get home tonight (posting from work, shhhh) I will take a picture so you can see what I mean about the size.

there IS a mid selector....Carl can tell you how to access it...you have to remove the back, remove one of the baords and turn it over....the selector is there....Carl said there is no way to make it easier to access...he and I discusssed options at length when he made the first one...

Hey thanks for the info...kinda a shame that you can't do mid freq selection. If it had that and DI, I would be all up on this.

see above....as for the DI...Carl says they add too much "noise" and he would want to isolate it...the current box does not have any room for that and the next size box is "huge" according to him...

Congrats! 55-01's are awesome basses.

And good on you for not buying into the if-it's-built-overseas-it-must-be-garbage mentality. Not only is it 100% incorrect, it is also a very close-minded, limiting philosophy. Some of the worst basses I've ever touched were made in the US (not by Lakland, of course!). I'd put a Skyline up against pretty much any US-made bass within $500.

see the LOG site.....notes from my most recent Lakland visit....the Aj series is going to fill that nitch..at least on the Skyline side.....I am SURE they still have the programming for the US models though.....

I really want to try the stacked knobs, I have never used that layout before but thought it would be more flexible than the traditional single tone circuit. How would you compare the two? I may make the switch one day.. Congrats!

I love the stacked knob configuration! mush more variety IMHO.....

Mike Quick realgoldinc.com , he now has a 44-02 and Stingray Classic templates ;-D and he already has some other Lakland guards available. He uses different karats of white and yellow gold, silver and copper to make some wicked designs. And he offers 3 different spray patterns over multitudes of colored backgrounds, even bursts.

After a couple days playing my new 55-60CS, I'm extremely happy. Yes, it looks amazing, but the tone is exactly what I was looking for. I'm so glad I went with the Chi-Sonic upgrade. They still have the jazz bass vibe but so much more. They are more aggressive and ridiculously punchy compared to the traditional jazz-style pickups I've played in the past. I have a Sadowsky outboard pre-amp box that I was thinking about using with the bass but the output is so hot and sounds so great, I don't think the bass needs it. I'm also loving the stack knobs they installed for me and the neck plays like a dream, perfectly setup! Consider me a new fan, and I'm sure this won't be my last Lakland.

yup...what he said! I'm lovin mine....getting her a new pickguard soon (was mint-white...now will be pearoid white to match the MOP blocks!!!)

To my ears, the Chi-Sonic pickups are certainly thicker and deeper, but they also have this aggressive "snarl" in the low-mids that sounds killer. They almost sound active, although the highs seem a little more polite. I hope that makes sense.

Just making sure I wasn't missing something by not hearing them in person. I'd still love to do that some day.

You can get that ordered....I would specify BEM to make sure...I have seen SOME US Lakies with more plain boards...and as for the blocks...yup...Ebony! the dots on US Lakies are ebony even!
