LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #50!!!

Status
Not open for further replies.
Yeah, I haven't had my DJ5 (or any DJ) for about 2.5 years now iirc. But I'm pretty sure Audere offered pre-mounted curved-plate DJ preamps at that time. Guess they have no reason too now.

Not sure about the Audere, but East made a DJ-Retro preamp installed on the curved plate. I think I snagged one of the last ones at bestbassgear.com. Sorry for the crappy cell pic.

Corrected. Seriously, it took up 3 separate messages!

well...it WAS important!!!

custom body shape
custom pickguard shape
custom pickups and electronics by ESP Japan
matching headstock covers all the way to the nut unlike normal lakland's
luminous side dots (glow in the dark)ebony pickup covers (cut from solid piece of ebony wood)
schaller strap locks
all gold hardware

i think i've covered everything i could remember :)

all cool...but the luminous dots are UBER coolio!!!

correction, the neck profile of the 55-69 is exactly the same as a US 55-94 :)

oops...thought it was slightly different....oh well....learning is ebtter than not learning,,,:D

Awesome! Cause my 'Ray is gonna be crazy cool! My JJ Custom is gonna be pretty sick too, but in a more tame way.

OH YEA BABYY!!!! "way crazy cool" as they say!!!

Hello all. A couple days ago I received my very first lakkie. I got a new S44-60 in trans white. I am still playing and deciding if I'm keeping or not, though I can't seem to put it down so it will likely stay. Like the neck alot, finish is very good. Only thing that bugs me is the neck pickup cut out is large compared to bridge. Sometimes I like to drop pick guard and go "nude", but not often. I also don't find the tuners very smooth (when fully tuning up new strings, just fine with normal tweaks) can they be upgraded? With what?

hmm.....mine are the same cutouts...wonder how yours are different...mine is an older Korean J but I thought they were using the same CNC programming.... also - as for the tuners, contact [email protected]e he can replace them,.....mine (same as yours) are very smooth...

They're Hipshots right? The US Lakland's tuners have an Allen screw for adjusting the tension on the key so you can have it loose or tight feeling. I'd say the Sky tuners have some options as well. I'd call Hipshot or Lakland, they'll help you get em feeling just right.

there you go...sound advice right there!

I'm 21, but I won a quiz on national tv about a year and a half ago, that's where I bought this bass from :)

that is Sooooo cool! congrats!

what was the winning question!?

glad you put the money to good use...now sell it and buy a few more Lakies (JK!)

My Fretless (the Natural one) comes with a LH-3 pre-amp as well.... only had it a few days, but Im inlove !!:D

wow...nice!

That is just too cool!

welcome back! nice way to re-join!

lovin it.....love mine as wll.

That's it! Concentric knobs for VT for each pup. The only thing missing that would have completed this bass is the matching headstock.

Mannie - that looks HAWT! is it just the headstock that is not right? PM me bro....seeing Carl tomorrow...

6 pages into #50..guess I'm not paying attention!!!

nice picture Ferg!!! you have a reason...you've been bsuy moddin pickguards....NICE work BTW! where is my 10%??? hmmm???:scowl::confused:

Seems awful cheap..

I guess it was....posting deleted!

Are the chi sonics an option to upgrade a JO with as a drop in, or do they require some routing work? What tonal differences do they bring compared to the admittedly great sounding stock pups?

routing required.....

go here to listen: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

any questions? ask after listening and maybe we can help....I LOVE mine...

Hey, good to see you!

I've ALWAYS wanted a 44-02, but an older one with the bart pups. The LOG bass also sparks my interest cause I'm obsessed with P5s. I've never really had the dough. And I would contemplate getting this one but I'm in the middle of buying another 5er. Maybe when the time is right.

I just saw this on the houston CL and thought it was rather cheap, but I guess thats about normal asking price.

Thanks man!

tommy! nice to see you hanging here.....have fun and remeber, youa re ALWAYS welcome!

They do require routing. Tonal differences: Thicker-sounding (between a J and a P, if that makes sense), not as much high end and with their own type of growl. Compare the soundclips on Lakland's site (although I think the Chis sound better in person).

there ya go.....

Finally got to play my, new to me, DJ5 out last night with my full amp rig, Aggy 500sc and GS410. It was a BLAST! One thing though, she's been modded with nordy pups and a U-Retro deluxe pre. The bass sounds great in active mode, but i felt like the high end was a bit choked sounding. Tweaking the highs and mids didn't really get me where I wanted my sound to be, so next set, I switched to passive mode. To my ears, it opened up a bit more.

I've played nothing but active basses for years now and I'm a bit surprised that my ears seemed to prefer the passive tone. Wondering if I should switch her to straight passive and sell the retro deluxe or if I just haven't found the sweet spot on the pre yet. Any suggestions???

you know.....I had my first 2 DJs with the J-retro...when I sold the J-retro and the DJ5 seperately, i have a passive plate installed in my DJ5...liked it alot! I like BOTh active and passive for differnet reasons.....the DJ sounds hot in both configurations BUT you may like it better passive...give it a try.

;-) Yeah - keep all yer eyes OFF my future Gold P fellas!!!!!! :D

LOL!!!
to match your JO5-1 gold???

Hi

I have a Lakland Skyline Hollowbody 4 string. Love it. Got it from J at NJGBC a few years ago. I play it more than my dingwall super j.

yahoo! nice bass.....like I keep saying..."someday!"

The guard on your DJ5CS looks great Ferg, I really like how you've altered the shape. IMO a Jazz bass with a traditional shaped guard and no control plate looks really awkward, but this is definately not the case :)

Thanks Luke...I consulted with a World Famous Pick-Guard Designer, a real nice "Doude" with a funny accent:D

at least I get my 10% credit!!! thanks ferg (takes bow!):D

Looks like I'll be the next owner of the proto LH3 preamp stompbox :-D.

Oh and Mike at realgoldinc.com will be finishing my custom guard for my 44-02 today. He now has (thanks to me) templates for the 44-02 and classic Stingrays. .

nice and nicer!!!!

Sure thing Luke. I'm posting a pic of my 'Ray too, afterall it's what inspired the 4-94 and 02 right?

get your 3D glasses out!!!

Well, my love affair with the 55-07 didn't quite work out, but I didn't end up sans Lakland.

I haven't owned a four string in 6-7 years, and it's been even longer since I have owned one truly gig-worthy. This is exciting. Love the bass. It plays like a dream.

If I had one beef, it would be the unique control plate. I want to replace it. I REALLY dislike the Audere, but one of the previous owners modded the control plate, so, when I go back passive, I'm going to have holes in my plate!!!

I need to get a better pic of it. The grain on the fingerboard is outrageous:

GREAT! those are really nice basses!!!! teh grain on that one is remarkable!

Ready to join one of these online clubs so I can feel part of an exclusive online family. :p

woah! keep the horses down! loving the collection!

Seriously though, I wouldn't be surprised if Carl (Lakland's semi-retired *sorta* former head luthier) doesn't have one in a junk drawer.

Yupper....if I remembe< I can ask tomorrow when I see him!

Just took delivery of my first Lakland, a Skyline 44-60 LTD in Inca Silver. I couldn't be happier, it's better than I expected. Later this week, I'll be receiving a 44-02 Deluxe Cherry burst I bought used here in the classifieds.

Pix of that one and better pix of the 44-60 to come.

that happens more often thatn not!

congrats!!! and congrats AGAIN for the 44-02!

welcome!!!

What's the deal with this LH-3 stomp box? :hyper:

I have one that Carl made for me recently. It's pretty much exactly what you think it is as far as being a LH-3 in a box but with one exception, it does not have the mid frequency select switch board. I don't know what the mid is centered at though. There is also a tuner out. It does not have a DI out, in case you were wondering.

It is a pretty big (tall) box so you can easily put it behind another pedal and not worry about hitting it.

The thing I love about it is that it is still very musical even at the high extremes of the settings. I run my Squier CV 60's P through it and it just comes alive.

EDIT: When I get home tonight (posting from work, shhhh) I will take a picture so you can see what I mean about the size.

Hey thanks for the info...kinda a shame that you can't do mid freq selection. :hmm: If it had that and DI, I would be all up on this.
