Seems awful cheap..

Hey Tommy, how've you been? I can't believe it's been a year since that lat GTG at Bass Emporium.

So, this one on CL is not really dirt cheap, I bought a used one at Bass Emporium for less than that, and it was dead mint. It is gone now but it was also the lightest Lakland I've seen.

Are you thinking of getting a Lakland?

That's it! Concentric knobs for VT for each pup. The only thing missing that would have completed this bass is the matching headstock.
Can you elaborate on the final bass not being what you ordered?
Well, it's very pretty, that's for sure. I'm pretty sure that you're going to love it once it's been adjusted.

What did you originally order?
See above.

Manny, glad you're digging the bass otherwise!

Hey, good to see you!

I've ALWAYS wanted a 44-02, but an older one with the bart pups. The LOG bass also sparks my interest cause I'm obsessed with P5s. I've never really had the dough. And I would contemplate getting this one but I'm in the middle of buying another 5er. Maybe when the time is right.

I just saw this on the houston CL and thought it was rather cheap, but I guess thats about normal asking price.

Thanks man!

Are the chi sonics an option to upgrade a JO with as a drop in, or do they require some routing work? What tonal differences do they bring compared to the admittedly great sounding stock pups?
They do require routing. Tonal differences: Thicker-sounding (between a J and a P, if that makes sense), not as much high end and with their own type of growl. Compare the soundclips on Lakland's site (although I think the Chis sound better in person).

Here's my new (to me) 2007 Lakland 55-02 Deluxe! Really, REALLY loving this bass so far. Completely different than my Sadowsky in such a good way (not that there's anything wrong with the Sad - it has it's place). It's really reminding me of my somewhat recently sold Modulus FB5 that I loved with exception of the 17mm spacing. Lotta great tones in this thing...

Finally got to play my, new to me, DJ5 out last night with my full amp rig, Aggy 500sc and GS410. It was a BLAST! One thing though, she's been modded with nordy pups and a U-Retro deluxe pre. The bass sounds great in active mode, but i felt like the high end was a bit choked sounding. Tweaking the highs and mids didn't really get me where I wanted my sound to be, so next set, I switched to passive mode. To my ears, it opened up a bit more.

I've played nothing but active basses for years now and I'm a bit surprised that my ears seemed to prefer the passive tone. Wondering if I should switch her to straight passive and sell the retro deluxe or if I just haven't found the sweet spot on the pre yet. Any suggestions???

Beautiful!

I Played Active for years...Got my JO5 and realized that even tho it had a J-Retro I was using it in Passive Mode most of the time...so I took off the J-Retro and have never looked back....
