Hey, guys. What's the latest on the DJ replacement models? Nothing on the Lakland site about them that I can find. Will they be available in Skyline versions? I seriously regret selling my DJ5...in a serious, heart-wrenching kind of way. I really want to replace that bass ASAP, either with a similar one or one of the new models. If they're going to be US made only, I won't be able to take that plunge.

If anyone has a DJ4 or DJ5 they'd like to part with, please let me know.

Yeah, I think they sort of are.

Jason, the DJ (well, 44-75 now) seems to be on back-burner status. It's on the price list for US basses on Lakland's site, so you can get one with the new shape. But there's not even a product page.

Check out the LOG board, though--a guy just listed two DJ5s this morning!

Thanks Greg. I checked there and eBay last night. Glad to see those there. I'm really hoping for a rosewood board, but maple might have to do.

That's a controversial subject for a lot of folks, everybody has an opinion...

My opinion: the E and B sound more piano-like at 35", and can be used further up the neck without sounding yucky. The A is ok at 35 but better at 34, and I definitely prefer 34" (or shorter) for D & G strings. This is why I messed around w/ Dingwalls for a while, but eventually gave up on trying to get used to the fanned fret obstacles.

I'm not affiliated in any way and won't get any price breaks etc... just love the look of his unique guards and he's a really nice guy w/ great prices. He's always available when I call and seems to love what he does.

If I had one beef, it would be the unique control plate. I want to replace it. I REALLY dislike the Audere, but one of the previous owners modded the control plate, so, when I go back passive, I'm going to have holes in my plate!!!

I need to get a better pic of it. The grain on the fingerboard is outrageous:

Wow. I love the Audere preamps. About as transparent of a replacement as you can get for a passive bass when set flat. FWIW, I inquired about an Audere for a DJ a while back, and Dave told me I'd have to drill holes in my plate, or ask Lakland for a second one.

And I'm going for that White/Maple DJ. Hope it works out.

The DJ plate is unique. It has that curve in the end. Lakland no longer has them since there's no need since the DJs are no more.

Audere's do come on control plates if you order them that way. But, for the DJ, you have to mount the pre on the unique DJ plate. So, you either order another or mod the original.

Yeah, I haven't had my DJ5 (or any DJ) for about 2.5 years now iirc. But I'm pretty sure Audere offered pre-mounted curved-plate DJ preamps at that time. Guess they have no reason too now.

Seriously though, I wouldn't be surprised if Carl (Lakland's semi-retired *sorta* former head luthier) doesn't have one in a junk drawer.
