LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #50!!!

Thinking of grabbing a Lakland Skyline P bass of some sort. I realise there's all Lakie love here, but can you please tell me how they are?? I can't go back thru this whole thread & there seems to be a lot less P Styles than Jazz & 55-01/02 etc styles.

- I've a Fender RW 50's Precision now & want another P style bass.

Will the Lakland P bass fill the void for me d'ya think?? Just wondering re the necks feel ? Sound with rounds/flats..?? Etc ANY info appreciated.

I use Labella flats on my RW Precision & love that, but I like it with rounds on too- hence me wanting another P bass.

This is probably not THE thread to ask, but I'm getting a Lakland, I promise! :D

I never used paypal before. If I understand their policy correctly, they won't refund if my payment doesn't go through. In the K$1000-ish range, it looks pretty much like a russian roulette (pun inmplied).
Is there anything I should know?

Thanks Greg. I had the BG first, along with a LEJ5 35". I would do anything to play the BG, even if the set called for a 5 string. Thankfully I found someone who had a 55-94 in Australia who wanted my LEJ, with cash to him. Now I have 2 basses that feel right, sound right, and look right. And I don't have to force a 4-string on a song that needs a low C. (I was tuning to drop D and using the hipshot Xtender to grab the C mid-song, then flipping it back).

Yeah about the pickguard I'm thinking of taking it off. The pics seem to show it at it's worst. You can even see the tape.

Have joined on laklandowners! Might go and post the pics on there.

Are there others with pickguards on 55-94s? Is the bass I just got (used) the only one?

What are you trying to do? What is the issue/concern?

If you use Paypal and select the 'goods and services' button, they will charge the recipient a fee, but the transaction will be covered and open for dispute and resolution. If you do a 'personal transfer', there's no fee (unless you use a credit card), but there is no legal remedy available if it all goes kaput.

I am using my credit card. I have no idea how not to...

How much is the fee and, does dispute and resolution mean that PayPal can actually give the buyer his money back; or, he's entitled to address the seller only? What if the buyer send the money but the seller doesn't get it due to some "kaput"?

If it doesn't go through, like due to a bad e-mail address, I'm pretty sure you can cancel or rescind the payment. You will NOT lose the money. I can't get to paypal from work to check...

Macribas, thanks for your help on that one. mine came with a really fresh set of the D'Addarios. One last question, do you know what guage strings they come with from the factory? I would prefer to use the same guage because I dont want to change the set-up. it plays perfectly, i would just prefer the higher tension of the DR lowriders

On a side note, this bass is freakin incredible. blows away every five string in its price range, and i tried a bunch before purchasing the lakland. Duck Dunn p-bass is up next for me, then collection will be complete

Hey Rod,

I think a Skyline P will fill the void for you quite nicely. As you may know, Lakland has a fair number of choices in this arena these days. There's the 44-64 (formerly the Bob Glaub), which comes with a 1.75" neck. There's also the 44-64 Custom (formerly the Duck Dunn), which has a 1.5" neck and always comes with blocks, binding and a matching headstock. The stock finishes for the former are 3-tone sunburst and black, and for the latter it's candy apple red. However, Lakland made special runs of both starting in mid-2010 in both teal green metallic and inca silver (the 44-64/Glaubs in these runs come with matching headstocks). These runs will continue for the rest of 2011, according to Lakland.

Sound: Since roughly late 2007/early 2008, Lakland's P basses have come with an in-house pickup. It's definitely more aggressive and modern-sounding rather than vintage with the tone wide open, especially with rounds on. But I think it's pretty responsive to the tone knob, so you can dial in more of an old-school sound, especially with flats. Alternatively, you could find a used pre-2007 Skyline with the Fralin pickup, which cops much more of a '60s Fender P tone.

Just to further muddy the waters, Lakland is coming out with a Skyline version of this (only with the split-coil pickup, at least for now):Invalid Link Removed But that won't be out till the end of 2011 or so.

Are you sure, Denis? I haven't studied the policy that closely, but I've used Paypal regularly (including for some substantial purchases and sales) and never had an issue.

Cool! Glad to see you joined the LOG, enjoy it and post when you can.:) I have seen a bunch of other 55-94s with pickguards, though the majority don't use them.

Great story.

Not many people put pickguards over the quilt top of a deluxe. I've got one on my 4 string though.
