Emailed Lakland a couple of days ago about getting one. Is this normally how people go about ordering one of these?

Have got a couple responses. Service seems good. Just going through all the general talking at the moment. Can't wait.

(I think I'm going to end up with an exact copy of Markus's token orange bass.. can't help myself. :O)

Can any Lakland experts out there tell me what strings come from the factory on new 55-02's? Are they nickel or stainless steel, and what guage is the B string? i prefer a higher tension string so im going to try DR lowriders. just wondering if i should get them in nickel or stainless, trying to keep the tone similar to what it has now.

Also, if anybody has suggestions for strings that are the same guage and have similar tonality to the factory strings but with higher tension, by all means throw a recommendation my way. Sorry for the long post but thanks for the help!

I recently got a LOGbass, 2 DJ5s and a JO5.
I tried different strings with these and all them sounded worst with Lakland Steels: clnaky with poor low end compared to Alleva steels and Sadowsky Blue Steels
I find this very strange ...

Check out Circle K strings. I put a 'balanced' .136 set on my Lakie P/J and they are amazing. I ordered a balanced .130 for my 55-02 as I tend to prefer lighter strings on active basses.

IMHO, there is a LOT to the concept of 'balanced' sets, where the tension is the same across strings.

I'm new to this group. Here are my basses, just got the 55-94 last week.

Not sure what to do about the pickguard... any suggestions? It's stuck on with double-sided tape, but seems that the pickup and neck would hold it in place.

BG has Neopunch pickups. very zingy.

There are quite a few threads on this at Link Removed. There is one thing that is worth mentioning here. People are taking it for granted that Skylines come with Lakland steels, as it was the standard. That is not the case anymore. The recent batches (and I have seen a few since I check every new Lakland that arrives at Bass Emporium) came from Indonesia with D'Addario Super Longs. They decided to just pass them on with those.
So if you just bought your 55-02 recently, there is a good chance they are D'Addarios. Check the ball ends, if they are different colors then they are D'Addarios. As it was said on this thread, if they have silver silk they are Laklands.
Another thing that needs to be clear is that with offshore instruments, it's common to get them with dead strings that have been on them for a while. My LOG Bass strings died upon arrival.
On to your question, it should be easy to tell if they are nickel or steel: if they look brighter and feel smooth in your hands, they are nickels. If they have a grayish color (not shiny) and after playing for a while your fingertips take the toll, they are steels. And Lo-Riders work great with your 55-02, both nickel and steel.
