LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #50!!!

I have a question for you Lakland gurus. I see that this year Lakland has release some limited edition colours for the Skylines, is this an ongoing thing? is it possible they'll do runs of new colours every year? I'm just asking because I have major GAS for a 44-60 Custom in Green, but sadly I might not have the funds to get one this year so I'm hoping they'll have cool colours for 2012.

Thanks all.

Since JP took over from Dan, Lakland have offered several LE runs of Skylines, so I see no reason as to why they won't keep doing it as they appear to be selling well.

Disclaimer: I'm not a guru as such... :p

Brown truck delivered my 55-60 LE today. Great!

Not so great, there's no string retainer behind the nut.....ugh!

Alright. I'm sorry, but I have to say it..... what is up with Lakland's Skyline series this year:confused:? Since i've bought my first Lakland('03 Skyline), i've rarely heard of any issues with Lakland basses. Skyline or not. This year alone, i've heard of more qc issues with their Skyline basses than i've heard in the last 10 combined. Obviously, something's going on over there that needs to be rectified... like, soon:hmm: Very disconcerting. I'm sure this is not how the new owners would have envisioned starting their acquisition of a World Class bass manufacturer.
Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on?

No idea at all, but I'll echo your sentiment

I bought a 55-94 the second or third year that they were out and that bass was PRISTINE in every way...

Bought another in March of this year and had to send it back to Lakland to get it properly set up...it's great now and their customer service was awesome BUT it is still a concern...

Well, bad news from Brian at Lakland today. No fretless replacement necks available for the old DJ5 series. Not too surprising since it's a discontinued bass, but there goes my hopes of having a fretted and a fretless twin.

Trying to decide now on whether to do a conversion on my '06, since it's already modded, or sell it and just keep the '04 which is NOS bone stock with the aero pups.

I don't suppose anyone here has a fretless DJ5 neck they'd want to part with do they??? :hiding:

^ I'm not sure, I didn't inquire about that and brian didn't mention anything about it in his email. I suppose I could write him again and see. I would imagine some serious luthiery costs might be involved somewhere along that route though, or am I mistaken there?

The bass seems great, setup is good, the sound is great.....just no string retainer. No pilot holes either.

Well, if you can, send it back for installation.
If not, Lakland uses the Floyd Rose string retainer, you can get those cheap at StewMac. That, of course, if your comfortable about drilling pilot holes.
