Hey Lakland peeps, I just snagged a Skyline 44-01 at the local GC for a mice deal. It's on layaway until the last of my pedals sell.
I want to order a Hipshot Ultralite Bass Extender (for a D-drop) ahead of time, can someone tell me if the posts are 3/8" or 1/2"?
Thanks!

Nice score!
Skylines are 1/2" posts.

This is what I meant, new colours :hyper::hyper::hyper:
As nice as Teal is, it's too sparkly for me, so I'll hold out for next year.

Thanks again.

Alrighty then!;)

Well, if you can, send it back for installation.
If not, Lakland uses the Floyd Rose string retainer, you can get those cheap at StewMac. That, of course, if your comfortable about drilling pilot holes.

Sorry to hear about eh string retainer. Personally, I wouldn't send a bass back for that. I'd have Lakland send you a retainer and some measurements on where to drill the hole. Tape off a bit and 1 minute later, it's all good.

Agreed, but take a tiny screwdriver, place the tip where you plan to drill, and tap the end lightly w/ a hammer. You want to make a dent so your drill bit won't wander, leaving an ugly scar across your headstock. Personally, I'd tell Leo that you want some strings for your trouble.

could Carl accomodate a neck blank for your old-style DJ5?

^ I'm not sure, I didn't inquire about that and brian didn't mention anything about it in his email. I suppose I could write him again and see. I would imagine some serious luthiery costs might be involved somewhere along that route though, or am I mistaken there?

Yes, talk to Carl first: [email protected]
Neck heel should be the same, of course you won't have the same neck curvature and fretboard radius.

you better call/write to carl himself
I am not sure as to how drastic the changes would have to be; but I'm absolutely positive that the price for a skyline neck blank / used neck with all the labor involved by carl won't be any near to a used US neck.
I believe carl can accomodate for the DJ curvature and radius, it is all the question of price

Okay, so I picked up my Skyline 44-01 today from GC. First impressions? Can I lobby for an extra hour in the day just to play this some more??

Photo (b/c I know - no pic, no bass! Sorry for the crappy cell snap.)

Leo is going to send me some strings for the trouble if having to install the retainer myself.

:)

Lakland Rules

it does! and the strings are your prize for remaining calm
installation shouldn't be any bother. But since your bass is brand new you may wish to cover the adjacent part of the headstock with painter's tap (it is eay to remove and doesn't leave glue marks). If the tape is clear you can even cover the part where you will be drilling, and do a hole right through the tape.

Again, it's no big deal, only protection against an occasional scratch on a new bass.
Best luck!
