), but at least I get partial credit as it's a 5 string and AFAIK there weren't any Natural Skyline DJ5s made. Hopefully that's correct vincea - Are the p/ups perhaps too high? That's the only reason apart from incorrect intonation I can think of.
Larry at Aero recommends that you should - fret the string at the 12th fret, and adjust for a 4mm gap between bottom of string and top of p/up. When I first followed this advice , I thought "No , that's MUCH too low", but it sounded perfect.
Give it a try at least.

+ another 1. I gave the same advice in your previous post and I still recommend it. I had the same problem on a bass I was putting together and the pickup height adjustment was the answer for me.
To relieve any stress I put on all of us Lakland fans, I emailed Dave @ Lakie HQ on how much a fretless skyline replacement neck would run for the DJ5. I know several of you were screaming, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, don't jack up that perfectly good discontinued neck!!!!

I already lowered the neck and bridge pickups 2/64ths of an inch lower than factory specs . . . go lower?????
Sure! It's an easy diagnosis... go crazy and lower them as far as they can go and see what happens. If the problem remains then you know that's not the answer.

Picked up something new today and it's not a cat. It's a mint 2004 hollowbody.
OK, I cranked them WAY down . . . went to band practice to learn a few new songs . . . I had a huge smile on my face - NO WARBLE OR OUT-OF-TUNE SOUND. Thanks guys . . . it's a keeper now!
