Lakland Owners Group #52

Hi TB,
I just got my first Lakland: a 2006 44-02 Standard w/natural finish and maple neck. I was on the verge of adding Sterling #4 (maple neck w/ HS pickup config) to my collection but decided to give the Lakland a shot, as I've always thought the only basses that might lure my from my MusicMans. Well, other than a Fodera I suppose!
Back in the early 90s I dealt with Dan Lakin a couple times before the launch of Lakland. I sure wish I had pulled the trigger on one back when they started..

So... My initial reaction to my new-to-me Lakland was basically that I think I'll stick to my Sterlings. There are things I like about it so far, but it was not really love at first sight/touch/sound. But, I need to spend some time working on dialing tone I like and such.

I'm also thinking, after reading some of the posts in this thread from vince a, that perhaps some TLC is needed, as I've noticed some similar things. In particular, the warbling effect he described. I was noodling along last night through my trusty ol' Eden Metro and kept thinking there was a chorus effect turned on, but the bass was plugged direct to the amp with no effects whatsoever in the signal chain. The set up seems generally ok, but I haven't broken out the feeler gauges or anything yet.

Lucky for me, I'm in the Chicago area with Lakland in the area so I don't need to worry about shipping it if it comes down to that.

Dang. I remember a conversation with him a while back and he had no plans to sell. No matter. I've realised recently that I'm going to be heading toward something fatter for a neck pickup, which probably means adding a 'P' pickup to a 55-02 or 55-01 (or adding an MM to a refinned skyline 55-64), and NOT messing with an expensive 55-94.

Thanks Andy! I don't think I said those exact words. I started playing bass on a five string...it's coming back to me...just mixing it up a little.

It looks a little more green in person but this is exactly what I was looking for. Bye bye awful tobacco sunburst LOL. Love the look of the grain so much now.

No issues my friend!!! Glad to hear it though!

"ground up" means begining with nothing...starting from scratch....

I am sure that will sell well.....the LH3 is such a sweet preamp!

He said they were in a "very preliminary" stage on a possible product. It is a redesign from the ground up (BTW what is that?) utilizing the LH-3 curcuit but with a DI. Hence the delay

I would contact Carl and see if he can do one of his set ups on it....he works magic with set ups!
