Hey guys, any reviews on the 44-AJ, especially the skyline version with the bart pre amp? The search function doesn't work for 44-AJ. I'm looking for a second, more mellow bass to go with my 'ray and these have sparked my interest as I do like active electronics.

I remain unconvinced about the AJs' sound, but I'll readily admit that it's purely due to the garbage Guitar Player mag video review from some time ago. I seem to remember someone pointing me to a better, more representative video at some point, but I don't remember who it was or the vid in question. Maybe he can chime in here...

Wow! Where in South America?

Hi Macribas!!! I´m from Panamá but we are based in Bogotá-Colombia... we start the market 3 years ago when the sales of Lakland in South America was ridiculous... Now we are attending Guatemala,Panama,Colombia,Peru,Chile,Argentina,Brasil and others little countries... We are very happy and confidence with the Lakland quality and sound... :bassist:

Note: This picture was in one of our Bass Clinics/Products shows in Bogotá...last year.Link Removed

The pick guards are popular.

What's that little pickup cover on that 55-60?

Hi Markus... You are the Lakland/Hanson Designer??? Nice to meet you here!!! The little pickup cover comes from Japan... this is the same that Marcus Miller uses in his backup Olympic white signature bass.... the company is Atelier Z... It´s wonderful to maintain the classic look without loose the chance to play more close to the neck pickup.... I personally use these in my Jazz 76 and my Alleva Coppolo 5... Obviously too in some Lakland Limited Edition series to add a little of "Customized" touch.

Well, I took the plunge and gave Jong at Jive Sound a call. He'll be shipping me a Skyline Custom 44-64 in Inca Silver tomorrow. This will make Lakland #2 (skyline hollowbody).

Does anyone know if Lakland sells Skyline pickguards? I wouldn't mind going black or tort on the Inca Silver.

Check Markus' post, four posts before yours.
The crappy review was from Premier Guitar, not Guitar Player.
But I think we should just wait to play the real thing.

Pickguards can be had from Roger at Jeannie's:

You might have to send yours for a fit, since according to Roger, no two Indonesian Skyline Pickguards match.

Last night I played both an MIA AJ4 and an MII AJ5 at Bass Club Chicago. Both were the trans red flame tops. nice. The MIA had a bound/blocked RW neck, sweet. Tone was very jazz-like, with easy ability to tweak to my desired jazz tone with the 3-band LH-3 Eq. Loved it, but somewhat duplicative as I have the active jazz thing covered, so I didn't take one home with me. Mark has some fantastic Laklands in stock right now. Do check them out.
