Im selling my 4 string fender and my 55-02 to get a inca silver JO5. Is this a good idea? Seems to me that the JO5 has a fatter rounder tone than the 5502?

Comes down to personal preference. the 55-02 should get you very close to a J. That being said, I wouldn't kick a JO5 out of bed for eating crackers.
I don't think the JO5 sounds at all like a J . . . I gig with a 2010 JO5 (55-60 Custom) with Chrome flats. My back up bass, is a Fender MIA Jazz 4, which I use (switch to) on several songs. Both are played through an all Eden rig. The J has that (similar to) vintage J sound and the JO has a much more modern and detailed sound . . . both sport the Chromes!
My JO5 is a Skyline, but supposedly, has the same pickups/electronics as the US made version! BTW . . . the action on the Fender does not even come close to the low, low action of the JO5, which is why it is my "go to" bass.

I've got both a JO5 and a 55-01, and the "jazz" tone from both are pretty close to each other (if I run the 55-01 in passive mode). The real difference to me is in body contours and how it feels resting on me.
All that being said, a JO5 in Inca silver looks hot!
Ah yes...that's right...I'm pretty sure they put Neo Punch j pickups in the JO5. The Vintage ones should be right there in the J bass realm.
Does the 55-01 have a preamp upgrade? The MK1 doesn't actually have active/passive. Pull is set flat and tone control lockout, still active.

World Cafe is a great venue... chill restaurant/bar upstairs with a great stage setup. And the downstairs has a larger stage for bigger shows. That night, we played upstairs and the Spin Doctors were playing downstairs.
And nice to know that all your digits are still functional. Watch out for those pesky drills.

Really. So the JO5 doesnt sound like a true J? You guys are killing me! I thought i had this all figured out lol. Does anyone else agree? (no offense, just want some other opinions) I guess i dont know if i just have gas or Im really hearing what i think. It seems to me that my 5502 gets close to a jazz tone, but not quite really. Maybe im just obsessing?

Yes I agree that the jo or 55-60 doesn't sound like a "fender" jazz. It does have its own sound in the jazz bass world. I really like the sound myself.
