Lakland Owners Group #53

Not open for further replies.
Just took ownership of a Lakland 5501. It was driving me crazy. FedEx runs everyday at my apt at 11-12. I see the guy and he leaves, then around 3 another FedEx truck comes and he leaves without giving me a package. I end up falling asleep and wake up with a sticker telling me its in my apt complex office building.

So...finally! I have it.

The bass is no lesser quality than the Korean one that I owned, I can tell you that right now. It's just as good if not better. A few finish flaws that I noticed with the Silver one I had are not present here. Neck pocket is super tight! B string actually sounds really good. Not sure what strings are on it but they aren't bad at all. Def. feels like a quality bass and doesn't sound bad at all through my practice rig. I can only imagine how it'll sound with some electronics modding.

Only problem...

I guess I've been playing Music Man necks for too long as this neck feels really big in my hands. I'm not a small guy either and I don't have a problem playing it but it def. feels more bulky than those slick MM necks. I think the fb radius may be different as well. Hmm...

We are definitely overdue for a GTG here! There have been several staged at Lakland (including in 2009 and 2010) and they've rocked big-time. When the Lakland folks say they're ready to have one at the new place, we will let you all know and set the wheels in motion--hopefully this spring/summer when it warms up.

:hyper:

very cool! Keep us posted on here as well as the LOG please... I check TB more often than the LOG :hiding:

how do we see a pic and maybe buy one?

BP,

Are they willing to sell to a consumer at will? Or will I have to perform unthinkable acts to get said bridge:eek: I will ask nicely. On second thought, I will tell em' BassPraiser from TB sent me and he told me you would sell me a black bridge!!

I think they would and do......as for throuwing my name around???? won't do you any good...NEVER had contact with them (and the cease and desist will keep it that way! JK!!!!)

yea yea yea....I AM getting another, that Scheff that lands tuesday next week from AZ.

And have two more U.S. Laklands in the works as we speak. the minute my 3 basses sell that are all listed right now for sale all over the place...I pull the trigger on the two additional US Lakies the same day. They are being held for me. Once I get the 2 additional US basses the Scheff might go up on the block? ya just never know? bwaaahahahaha!! ( mad scientist laughter ) :eyebrow:

YOU ARE BUYING 2 MORE US LAKLANDS???? and on the same day???

Holy Cow!!! Terry award 2012 for sure...you BETTER get more of those "other basses" on the block or you may be sleeping here:

Beware of the Doghouse- Hilarious! - YouTube

(vacuum...too many basses...SAME thing!)

especially the ones that are like 5"9" with really hot foreign accents.....ooooo la la oui oui....HAHAHAH!! :hyper:

WAY off topic...but yeah.....now get BACK on topic and let me think about Laklands!!!!

It's not like it's 4A quilt... and nothing compares to Marty's sparkle.

Never heard a person in the audience say "look at that quilt top" but M'Falice always gets remarks.

you are so "commercial"....always doing what is bets for your "audience"...such a sell out ( he he.....JK!!!)

send a pm to Kinetic Shadow. he is on here ....scroll back a page or two to find his post. He has a Stealthy Skyline. He HAD a black painted lakland logo-ed bridge on it. I think he mentioned removing it for one reason or the other ....and selling it to someone else here.

But ask those guys...they can hook ya up with details and info you seek. good luck

yup....you would be better with Kinetic Shadows info with them....he has done it.....

good luck!!!

yup....that is an early one......no Lakland on the bridge and different hardware....

as for teh guys at GC ignoring you? if you are not a 12 year old making way too much noise on an instrument he'she does not know how to play, that is normal.....

call in and make an offer....may have better luck!

ooooo...you got a JO coming? nice....welcome back AGAIN!

FWIW, I played #156 (4494) at a GC here in the DFW metroplex. It's at the Plano GC if anybody's interested. It is in cherry burst with maple. The figuring on the body and neck is OK. It's not the best quilt top or BEM fret board I have seen. For a moment, I thought it was a prototype. It had the typical Lakland bridge, but the bridge did not say Lakland....the neck hardware was different. Instead of the ultra-lite Hipshots, it had exposed vintage style Hipshots. Also, the neck screws and washers are different than current production. Another thing that was different was the three-way toggle. The toggle on this bass wasn't like the blade toggle on current basses. This was more like an exclamation point shaped toggle. It has the Bart pre and Bart pups. The pups are worn down from string play. Aside from the wear on the pups, the bass in pretty good shape for a 97' model. They want $1700 for the bass (no case). I was going to offer them $1400. But the salesman ignored me for the last 1/2 hour I was there. So I said it 'f' it and left. I got a new Skyline JOBO in the way anyway. It was a nice bass though.....gotta love early Laklands.

you know the rule...no pics no Norwegian!

Just kidding Brian!

we gotta get back on track here.....the mods are watching....:ninja::hiding:

this kind of friendly banter got us in "touble" a couple of years ago....

so.....doggonit! I loves my my Lakies!!!!:hyper::bassist:

PS - Dan and Brian???? the Doude and Markus of 2012?????

ride the wave my friends!!!!!

Yeah I know, and to think she's hung around for 18 years plus and even took me to GC today to check out some gear. :p

hmmmm......I guess we need to update the email....sorry about the confusion.....the T-shirts are all gone....new supporting memebrs get a neato polishing cloth AND a really coolio Mousepad (designed by a guy who has a color named after him!!!)

Lakland owners group just sent me an email saying that an upgrade to a supporting membership includes this t-shirt. Hmmm.

nope......see my post above....sorry for the confusion...if you want a Lakland T-shirt contact [email protected] (like I just did).....these are LAKLND Tshirts NOT LOG shirts they are selling....

Can I get a confirmation on this? This is the t-shirt that you would always see Dan wearing? I need to update my subscription and I have been wanting one of those shirts.

I think that was before....I got a care pkg from LOG already for supporting....it was a mouse pad and sticker sheet and cleaning cloth.....
I think I recall seeing they ran out of shirts and subbed these items instead.

not "subbed" we wanted somehting new each year......and these were "different and unique"......

I think within a few weeks this entire switch over should be wrapped up and done. At which point I can then settle in a bit more to my normal relaxed search mission mentality and not be so consumed and hectic.

ahhh...THTA will NEVER happen.....once you get hooked you are always on teh look out for your next hit.....ahhh...I mean bass...yeah.....thats right....I DON'T have a problem....do I?

what are YOU looking at!?:eyebrow:

And a few pages back, there was talk of a little GTG action in Chi-town... hmmmm... My girl and I were talking about takin a trip out there in the summertime actually... hmmmmmm indeed.

yeah....we hoped to have one in 2011 but the Lakland move squashed that....we HOPE to have one in 2012 as soon as JP and Bo give their go ahead...

regardless, come on out!!! you guys will have a GREAT time and Greg and i can show you around....

So I'm more like Dr. Frankenstein?;)

"That is Dr Fronkensteen"......

all apendages crossed!!!

This is EXACTLY how the chi-sonics were invented (in my mind)...
I like to imagine this is how Carl Pedigo looks when the camera's aren't around, too...

yup....that is Carl....he he....

well....I am glad that OVERALL you like it!!!

it is REALLY is frustrating when waiting for NBD!!!

you had a Lakland 5er before right????? the neck profile has not changed at all.....the necks are different than a MM neck though.....

keep playing it and you will get used to it!!!:hyper::bassist:

Doug you my friend are a riot...hahahah!!
have a little coffee this evening? huh? huh? just a lil? huh? LOL :)

Nope not two in ONE DAY silly....
This is an ONGOING kinda battle...
I did sell one of the three listed for sale basses tonight.
YAYAYAYAY!!!
meaning I am one third closer to buying those two US laklands I spoke about getting.
One will be a US Decade it seems. ( will not get much into details YET )
and the other one is a surprise...hehehehe evil grin!!! :)

suspense builds....duh duh duh!! :)

I got that same packet when I paid my supporting membership dues. Nice mousepad and cloth, but I'd look weird trying to cover my girlie bits while running nekkid down the street. T-shirt would be a better cover-up.
