Speaking of which: I'm considering having my Lakland pimped. I want binding around the fingerboard to match my Fender :) What would a job like that cost, do you guys think?
Man, I am thinking that would be a pretty involved, and (by extension) expensive bit of work. All frets need to come out, neck sides need to be routed, binding installed, old frets then need to be shortened and re-installed (if you can reuse them), if not new frets cut and installed (trimmed and end dressed), perhaps all fret slots would need to be cut through the newly installed binding. Then, if everything went back together perfectly as before it was dissasembled then you're done, If not (which I am guessing is more likely), then more detailed fretwork and dressing would be in order and then hope it played the way you liked it befoe you ripped it up. A potentially pricey couple strips of plastic...

Hmm, as you describe it, it would be an expensive job indeed... Might check it out with my local luthier tomorrow.

I've been in love with Lakland 44-02's for quite a while now, and I finally have the opportunity to potentially buy one this weekend. The model I'm looking is made in 2007, and I was wondering if you guys could tell me a little about the bass, such as what pickups and electronics were used that year and if there's anything else I should watch out for while buying a Lakland used. Thanks!

I walk away from any deal in which the seller won't take Paypal. I have only been ripped off twice with online purchases and both of them were with MO's. If a seller doesn't want to take a sale with some security for the buyer than I won't deal with them.

then I guess you and I will never do business....cashiers check only please....either way...and fedexed (at least FROM me to you)

Could anyone tell me if the Skyline 44-02s has always had the LH-3 pre amp? Such as, if one has bartolini pups would it still have the LH-3, or would it have a Bart pre?

...answered at the LOG.....

Bart pre. And the 02s w/ Barts will have the (general opinion) less desirable Barts since they switched from the "good" Barts around 2001 I believe.

...and HERE I see.....

The Scheff arrived safely.
Gotta say you where right Doug, this thing is very cool! :)
Feels WAY more like the US bigger brothers than expected.
Has a great tone range and killer ooomph, snarl and burpage. LOL :)
Fun bass...
Might wanna grab a black pearloid or other funky cover for her...Jeannies?

TOLD YA!!!! yup...they are VERY "US feeling"...I had a 2002 Skyline Glaub that Carl thnought was a US model the first time he saw it...these are the same vintage....

I also hear you got Something else" coming???? hmmmm???

Just like crack...ones you do it..always adicted (that is why I do not do drugs or gamble...I have an addictive personality...keep it to "safe" Laklands!!!)

Posted this over at laklandowners.com as well.

2009 Bob Glaub. Alder body in Olympic White with a rosewood neck. Jazz width. Weight is just a tad over 8lbs.

I decided to suck it up on the jazz width and just get used to it.

Sweet! We knew you'd be impressed. I'm really surprised these Skyline JS models were discontinued.

I'll admit, at first, the bright Chrome Armstrong Lipstick Tube pickups look a bit different.

However, the pickup and unique spacing/placement really bring these animals to life.

The Black PG would be a cool color combo. Maybe Black Pearloid too?

Keep us posted...

well...I guess poeple did not know the POWA of a Scheff!!!!

after playing a few, I am surprised as well.....

I got that number for previous Skyline Glaubs I have owned.

yupper sir!!!! glad to have you back in the fold!!!

Very Nice Dan!

But I do wonder what one of these beasts would look like completely blacked out except for the bright chrome pups staring back at you from the darkness. Yeah, I went there.

you WOULD go there Brian! you would.....if my Scheff did not have a KILLER...I mean KILLER quilt top, i would see your "scheff in blacK" and raise you a bight silver pickup...

Yea for sure...all elements come together in this.
A lot more ROAR than I would have figured from a bass like this. Pretty cool for sure.

I told ya!!! roar/growl for daize......

Hey bud, thinking this one might hang around a lil while :hiding:

uh...REALLY!??? that is a shocker...:D

FYI for any folks that are going to be in the Cincinnati area on Feb 21st there's going to be a bass clinic featuring Lakland and GK amps

Whoa. I didn't know there was another disc maybe in the making. I got songs...

we are trying J!!!!!

we only need...oh 10+ more songs.... he he....

Actually, it's getting the *virgins* wet that-- actually, you know what? I uh... Won't go there after all...

DON'T go there.....:ninja::D

let Me go in youjr place..

Oh Gawd, this is the configuration I have been dreaming about. I'm a Jazz neck kinda guy.

you can get a 44-64 custom which is a P bass with a jazz B&B neck....Skylines in red, inca silver and teal... (last 2 are "used only" at this point)

I bet you could buy a new BNB neck for about the same price as getting it retrofinished.

I agree...

I don't want BNB... I want DNB :)

ahhh...I see.....nice!!!! not sure of the price....but I can tell you that binding is EXPENSIVE! email Carl or Pat Wilkins...those are the only 2 I would trust to do it...

Finally after having all my ducks in a row I picked up this baby today!

Ok... Now I understand why you had to let that cherry 'Bird go. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that looks like Pat Wilkin's work on the Firemist...

Damn sexy.

well...I guess poeple did not know the POWA of a Scheff!!!!

Yeah, I wasn't surprised to see the Scheff go away when it did, though I thought it was a shame that it did. I think it just *looked* too different for people. Like, maybe nobody believed you could get great honkin' sounds out of those bitty litte lipsticks. Even though they're about the same size as J pups.

It's too bad; it was a unique axe.

then I guess you and I will never do business....cashiers check only please....either way...and fedexed (at least FROM me to you)

That looks to be the case, but no offense meant to you. Other things can happen that aren't the seller's fault....lost in the mail for example. Would it be possible to recoup that? Maybe (big maybe) but even if you could it would require battling the shipping company and proving what you had inside.

My rule is, cash sales for face to face transactions only. All other get some sort of protection. If someone is worried about fees I will do my best to pay them an amount that will help cover it. There really is no reason not to do Paypal past the fees. It is 100% more convenient for all parties.

I 100% agree on using Fedex.

Hey guys!

Just wanted to update you guys on my 5501. I put it up for sale shortly after getting it because the neck was much larger than the MusicMan basses I've been playing but after playing it for a few days, I now prefer it and the wider spacing.

With that being said, I know I have the lowest Lakland on the totem pole but gosh this bass is wonderful. It's an Indo made version and I'm big on USA made quality but this bass has great fit & finish. It's Achilles' hill is the electronics, but I plan on swapping those out. They aren't useless as some users complain about but they aren't the best either.

I'm sippin' the Lakland koolaid and loving it!
