And the JOCS is now sold to Paul. It's a great bass, just a different strokes situation. Me and jazz basses just don't seem to get along--I had a Skyline DJ, a US JO with Fralins and now this one. All were great, they just didn't end up suiting me tonally. On the other hand, Paul loves it and he gets his first US Lakland, so win-win!

So I had a little bit of a religious experience when I borrowed GregC's JO with Chis to take to rehearsal the other day. I wanted to play something with those pickups in a band setting as I was considering modding my Glaub. I discovered a couple of things:

1. I realized I had never played a Jazz bass type instrument in a band setting before. I've played plenty of jazz basses, but never in a group. I totally get it now and why so many people prefer using jbasses.

2. Love those pickups

3. Love the feel of that bass, the ergonomics are better for me than the Glaub

So, I've decided I need a JO (44-60). I think GregC may end up selling the JO as he is more of a Pbass guy. So instead of modding the Glaub, I am going to sell it to help fund either Greg's or somebody else's JO.

I hear ya! I'm a P guy too...hard to let go of my JOCS since it's the first Markus Orange, and when I play stuff that requires a J bass tone...it's just....just so sweet!

I've got it somewhere. I need to try it sometime. My Stingray Classic fits my current band so well that I never tried it out. It's about time to revamp my pedal layout, maybe I'll stick it at the front end.

if you're playing a classic you probably knew what you were after when you were getting it.


but the pedal is oh so worth it =)

I hear ya! I'm a P guy too...hard to let go of my JOCS since it's the first Markus Orange, and when I play stuff that requires a J bass tone...it's just....just so sweet!

I totally understand that. I know we've discussed this before, but this experience confirms that I basically only like P basses, and two-pickup basses where one is close to the neck (closer than a standard J bass).

I feel I can cover mostly everything with them. Only GASing for a Ric 4003, but everytime I play a non-Lakland it feels like a dissappointment.

Same, though I have a very nice Fender as well. I think what happened in my case is that my Skyline upped the threshold of what I will accept in terms of fit and finish.

I'm the same, and I too have had a DJ5 w/ aeros and a USJO5 w/ Fralins. The only jazz I've kept has a series switch that I keep engaged, turning both pups into 1 spread out humbucker. I've figured out that (obviously) single coils don't work for me.

Actually, like w/ my first Lakland, I took a chance on the Classic. I'd had a rare mid-90s "transition" bridge 'Ray that didn't work for me at all. Bought the Classic here on TB without ever trying one out, hoping what I'd heard about the 2-band was true. It's got a slap tone I can't get from any other bass and every other tone is there also w/ just a small tweak. My number 2 is my 44-02 and I keep Sexual Chocolate and Traci around for the low B stuff.

I've had several Rics. They're fantastic, but you'll probably do like me and just sell em eventually.
