I agree with you. Strings are the first "mod" a guy can do to get a different tone out of a bass. I've had basses that I couldn't stand the tone of and put a different set of strings on them and instantly love the tone. Then again, I've put my favorite set of strings on a bass before and found they just didn't work with that bass.

Agree on that front. I like certain strings for certain basses, from Stainless to flats.

At long last I got my first Lakland! It's a 44-02 Skyline Deluxe, made in 2007.

Johnny..REALLY glad the adjustment to playing a J neck is not too big of an issue!

as for the cutout on the guard? sounds like someone might have done some "experimenting" and put on the cover to cover up his "work"....

I am sure Lakland or Roger (Jeannies) can fix you up with a replacement....

who owns what? the stompbox I tried was a prototype from Carl...Greg and Markus both had it for a while....not sure where it is now...

I whole heartedly agree! I bought an acoustic a year and a half to 2 years ago and the brass strings on it were way too "clanky" for me....I wanted somehting zippy but not clanky...tried Chromes and REALLY liked them....however, over time, they have become mellow and have lost their zip...I do find myself plying the acoustinc quite a bit ....I played it 100% today in church and it did not seem to "come through" like it used to...maybe time for new strings...may do another set of Chromes...Maybe Sadowsky black labels...not sure....may want a little less tension as well....

Yeah I was convinced I would not adjust. There was only one other jazz neck that I really liked as much as this one and it was a super early Fender Fullerton reissue jazz. It had a neck to die for.

This lakland has it tied if not beat.

As for the guard. I would buy that someone did it but the bulk of it looks stock/cut very well. I am thinking the Lollar is just a smaller footprint than a standard Precision. I will take a picture then. Not a huge issue and if it bothers me it's not tough to get a new one made.
