On another note, thought I would share something I discovered today in trying to clean an old bridge that had rust and chrome oxidation. I took some Barkeepers Friend (liquid) to the saddles with a paper towel just on a whim as the stuff is great for cleaning stainless, showers door trim, etc. And wouldn't you know it, the rust and deposits started to come right off. Just be sure to wipe it off before it dries. And a good rinsing with water can't hurt just be sure to use some rubbing alcohol to evaporate what moisture remains and dry well. Hope this will come in handy for someone.

I guess you're right and wrong at the same time. I turned the board over (2 screws on mine), and it is flat, plain and boring as a glacier. Not a single unit there. Nada. So Carl must have changed something, although mine, he said, is his very last one and it is marked with "Rev.A". Go figure.
However, on the face side, right under the "LH-3" mark there is something that could be it. It is very small, clockscrew-size small, and made of metal, so it doesn't resemble the one on the barts. It has a cross slot and is marked with "R-19". Will check it out later on.

Still, I have a few questions for those who tried them
1. on mine, the volume knob controls both passive and active modes. When you lower the output in one mode, it will be lowered in the other too. Same on yours?
2. on mine, the button switch is marked as "BYPASS". However, the volume pot also serves as buffer for the passive input. When I bypassed the vol. pot in passive and included it to the active circuit (to have 100% passive signal pass any time and still retain variable active signal), the passive signal is WAY louder than the processed-by-preamp signal. Did you take a chance to peep under the hood on yours? Is it the same?

On a different note, the sound is killah! With the LOG PJ5 VT/VT, it is the parallel universe of the brilliant 94 series, only "passive/active" contrary to the "active/passive" concept of the latter. Hopefully, Hanson do come up with a serial model.

First practice with the Olympic Glaub. I am adjusting to the neck with no issues which I was hoping for but not really expecting. It sounded fantastic in a band environment. I took of the chrome pickup cover and I found that the pickguard is cut large around the pickup. This has a Lollar in it...is the large opening because the Lakland pickup is larger than standard P pickup dimensions or are the US guards just cut that way?

This is actually making me think I might like another Lakland with a jazz width neck.

I don't have the funds for a US Glaub right now. I am going to have to go with an older Skyline I think. Unless you want an 80's 62 Reissue Precision and a 70's LoPrinzi acoustic guitar. Those are items I have on the chopping block right now.

Exciting moment, pretty soon: I'm gonna put Elixirs (with a taperwound B-string) on my 55-60 for the first time. I wonder how that turns out. I'm not a big fan of Elixirs but I want to have reeeeeally long lasting strings on the Lakie.

I had a fretless and tried it TI Jazz Flats and with Status tapewounds ... I liked both. The TI's were selected after I asked a question like yours here.

EDIT: Just checked your post on the Hollowbody thread. (Nice bass ) Worth noting that my bass had barts not chi's like yours.

Yeah, I think the flats are just too 'jazzy' for the music I do. I might try some chromes before I give up and trade it out. Yeah, it was a real disappointment to me; the bass feels great and is fun to play when I'm noodling around at home... But, the gig is where the rubber meets the road. And that's where the sound of the flats just didn't cut through.

To me, Chomes aren't your typical flats. I don't play a lot of music that requires flats either, but there are just some basses that really work with Chromes. Right now, my hb, 44-51, and darkstared Glaub are all wearing Chromes.

When first putting Chromes on they are very lively. They mellow out quite a bit as time goes on, but I agree. They aren't a typical thud style flat.

Pressure wounds are very fun. Thick & chewy tone with no muddiness at all.

Yeah....Chomes have a lot more upper mids to my ears. Yeah pressure wounds are fun! Have them on my Decade. Since I'm so happy with my Laklands and Mesa WA rig, it's fun to experiment with strings. Amazing how much strings change the tone of a bass.

somehow, I like elixir on guitar but on bass, meh
also, if you're saying long -lasting. in my parts, you can get a pack of elixir for about the price of 3 ernie balls. 3 ernie balls do last longer, and they sound better (to my ear) too
elixirs only last a while and when you're seeing dandruff-like flakes of plastic on the strings and pickups (and that happens surprisingly quick, especially if you have to take a pick from time to time) - they are wearing out as quick as any other set

Right now I'm using GHS Precision flats. They sound great with the acoustic band but do limit the range of tones somewhat. The orignal D'Addario Pro Steel stainless rounds were too zingy for me, and the DR Black Beauties just felt too sticky. (I've tried to like those; is it just me)? Next up to try are my usual favorite DR Sunbeams or the GHS Pressurewounds, which I am digging on a different bass.

I agree with you. Strings are the first "mod" a guy can do to get a different tone out of a bass. I've had basses that I couldn't stand the tone of and put a different set of strings on them and instantly love the tone. Then again, I've put my favorite set of strings on a bass before and found they just didn't work with that bass.

Also, MESA good.
