And here is the new one! Not a Glaub this time. Tomorrow or Sat. I am going to ship the neck off to Pat to spray the headstock natural. All those that know me know that I am not a painted headstock fan. I got a good enough deal (really good) that I can get the refinish done and still be under typical used value.

Not much to report as yet I as just got the strings and subsequently tore into the packaging as I was just too curious about this "buttery feel" that has been touted about them.
Mind you, I mostly play nickel coated steels, but have played straight steels in the past including Dean Markley Blue Steels.
The reason I mention the Blue Steels is because that is what they kind of feel like straight out of the package. Not as "drying" to the touch but have a kind of "tack" to them.
I'll report back more later once I've had a chance to string up the 44-02 and play them a while. Perhaps this initial feel will change once they are under tension.
One more thing: They do not have any blue hue to them as in the marketing material. Not that I thought they would, but thought I would mention it just in case anyone was curious about that.

You know, the more I see these, the more I am growing to like they're funky look. And they come with Chi's and are mostly black, nothing that a little refin on the body couldn't cure. Hmmm....
I'm glad to hear that they don't have the tint to them. I'm *very* curious about them, but I hate tinted or coloured strings.
I'll be looking forward to your impressions once you've played them for a few weeks.

In the future, when finances allow, I'll be picking up a 44-07 Single Coil Chi's. A thought I've been toying with is asking Lakland if they'd be willing to move the neck pickup up a bit to cop more of a "chewy" P-Darkstar sort of tone...which I absolutely love. What do you guys think? Good idea? Not so good? Would it mess with the "harmonic nodes" (most likely misusing the term, I know!)?
Also, here's a shot of my only remaining Lakkie...for now!!!

How about use the Jerry Scheff pickup placement... Works fine there for that growly tone.
I have had that refin thought many a time since I would want the head to match the body. And maybe a pearl guard to match the blocks.

Sorry I couldn't pick up the 4-94 but it's for the best probably.
I bet they'd move the pickup... anytime you fret a note you are in essence shifting nodes, so don't fret over moving a pickup 1/4" or so.

It sounds fantastic! I stayed away because I never really gave jazz necks enough time to get used to. I assumed I hated them. After I spent time with a jazz width neck I grew to really like it so I figured I would give this a try.
I was a little shocked that it has a glossy neck. Are they all like that? Not the typical Skyline satin?
I've kept this beast secret for a long time, I don't think anyone can crucify me for saving a US Lakland body, pickguards, and pickups from collecting dust..... right?? 
Long timers will recognize the body and know it's owner history. Anyways, he wanted a straight P, and w/ me being a wannabe builder... things came together like the stars were aligned
. I had won a neopunch LH P p'up from a LOG giveaway, and the body came w/ the neo J p'up and 3 pickguards 
. I had pots, strap locks, knobs and some screws in my parts drawers. I think I even had the string thru BA bridge sitting somewhere. The BA bridge did not match the thru body holes well but I made it work w/ a little drill work--- enlarging the holes a bit. It now has an early days (no name stamp) Lakland bridge installed, but I won't post pics of that out of respect for Lakland. I just prefer Lakland bridges over all others .
The neck is a Warmoth which fit the older body like a glove, but I doubt it would fit a newer US Lakie since specs are less-F3nd3rish from what I've heard. I was able to pick the fretboard from pics, fretsize and material, neck dimensions and finish.... turned out GREAT!!
And, it sounds PHENOMENAL!! Worked great w/ the band the other day and will definitely be getting gig time!

Jazz necks rule! All the Skylines I've had have been satin as well, wonder if the previous owner gave it a coat of somethin for that slick & shiny feel?
Easily fixable, just give it the US treatment, DONE!
