I hear ya buddy.
I love the idea of owning another bass with a darkstar in it.
I love my HB.
Just freaked out to blow the $$$ if all of these have some tweaked thing on the headstocks...
Mind you, THIS bass the store owner is writing me about is NOT the one I have being held for me.
It is selling for less money.
So I wanted to Inquire and maybe save $250 in the process for the same bass.
But I would most likely pass on this one and buy the one I was initially interested in from a private owner I am talking with.

Was a little nervous when I opened up the strings and saw how bright they were, but I dont think the look is too too outrageous.

Huh? I knew nothing about em really.
I was just doing a google search to see what the selling prices have been on that model bass.
I knew nothing about it, till I was approached by someone else about maybe buying theirs.
Then I began doing some research on it online.

I really like the idea of owning another darkstar bass.
I guess time will tell...always does :D

Guys its Kebo and MANY of you contacted me on my DPLE II - Trust me, the headstock finish - it is nothing more than a THIN veneer of plastic glued to the face of the headstock. It is not paint of any kind. Trust me we were just as surprised as you it was not paint. We shipped the bass to a trade show and the heat in the truck im sure impacted the glue. The entire repair took 5 minutes and a clamp....

That is how it was more or less described to me.
Guessing over time this could happen to any of the 30 in the run?
Depending on the environment it is kept in, etc.

I am considering picking up a Lakland skyline Dudepit LE II bass with the factory loaded single Dark Star.

It is supposed to have a "matching Headstock".

BUT, I found out from someone that theirs has a Plastic on the headstock matching the bodies paint color.
And that theirs is not a painted headstock at all????????
They said the plastic on theirs has thin fine cracks in the plastic????
Not clear if it is a thin sheet of plastic cut to fit the headstock?
Or if it is a plastic thin laminate?
or just what it really is.

Have asked around a wee bit, But wanted to try to get the actual factual 411 from you guys who most likely know all about this limited edition bass.

Please let me know ...having bass held...thanks :D

These are great basses!
Liked them so much I owned the same one twice, then had a US BG built based on this config.
I had no idea it was not paint, if anything, the headstock gave me the impression of a luxuriously thick coat of paint - looked sharp, no idea it was a laminate, nor would that have been an issue for me at all. doesn't feel like a "cost cutting short cut ".
If the lam is back in place and glued tight, whats the issue?

This batch of basses was special!
