You could always mill/sand off about 1/16th to a 1/8th inch off of the bottom side of the heal of the neck to lower the neck/fretboard into the pocket a bit more.

That in return would then require the saddles to be lowered - maybe even the nut milled out a tiny bit.

wow!!! that should not be delaminating like that!

fixing teh neck SHOULD help the fret buzz as well...

it got crack between the neck and the fretboard at fret 18 to 22 1.5mm at the 22nd fret and got narrower toward the headstock.

I just wanted to know if anyone have this same issue,
it's playable but with heavy fret buzz at 18 fret, not to mention it got some slight fret buzz on few fret across the board, so much for plek'd instrument...

what a bummer, Lakland is my dream bass, still is...:)

Even though I've never seen a shim in any Lakland neck pocket (import or US), I HAVE seen them in my other US basses and can't hear any negative effect.

So, I gotta wonder why the tech didn't place a shim at the headstock end of the neck pocket? A minor re-angling of the neck (using a shim) will allow the saddles to be dropped.

Hello LOG -

I'm the seller, and disappointed that Dan had to deal with that.
Don't know what happened - the bass was fine when I shipped it (other than the high saddles). Good to hear that the tech remedied the neck bow.

Dan and I have talked about this issue since he got it and I hope all is fine on his end.

No need to shim if there is not an issue. If the saddles are high but the neck is straight and action is low then it's only an aesthetics thing and doesn't need to be remedied. I am convinced it's a Skyline thing as I have two that are exactly the same way and I have seen photos of many more. Now why are some NOT that way? I have no idea but there are plenty that are.

I agree that if the bass plays great, then there may be no need. But for me, an 1/8" to 1/4" string height difference (off the body) when switching from my other basses, would feel weird to my plucking hand. So, I'd correct it.

I'd like to see a pic of the neck heel area from a players angle to see just how high the fretboard is compared to the body. If it's extremely high then the whole neck route is too shallow and a shim would just be a bandaid.... and a deepening of the route would be in order.

That's the thing...in my two cases at least there it's not like there is an extreme string height over the body. All of that is normal. Pickup height, string height, action, etc. That's actually what makes it weird. The saddles are high which looks a bit off but that is where the setup is correct.

Hmmm that leaves me wondering if the bridge plate is super thick on US bridges when compared to Skys..... that would account for some of the additional saddle height. I'll have to compare when I get home from work in the morning.

Yep could have someone do that possibly.
Tech suggested maybe putting a business card thin shim under neck to allow for lowering saddles.
I passed for now.
It straightened out easy enough and plays pretty nicely.
But the saddles just should not be like that, and will hinder future set ups and adjustments.
So who knows?

Yea my US laklands all have the saddles set really low and the set up is perfect.
This skyline has the saddles on the last thread.
I know gary said his saddles are high too.
Maybe they made these DPLEII's on a friday? LOL :)
