Hello, thanks for the respons, I haven't contact lakland because I don't think they could do any help (not lakland's fault), here's the thing, the funny part is, I'm come from Million miles away from Lakland office, and Lakland Skyline factory is preety much in my backyard, I from Indonesia..hehe, and as far as I know, there's no Lakland rep in Indonesia even tough it was made in Indonesia.., there was a dealer, but the stop selling lakland, that's why I order overseas through a friend.

yesterday I email my friend and he forward it to the seller, and guess what, I got a slight refund..., after refund I got the bass for about 970 USD, I think it's a good price isn't?...

tomorrow I think I will go to my local luthier and fix the thing.. really hope it can be fixed..

email [email protected] and see what he says....the tech shooda been able to set it up and not max out the sadddles.

I think like Gordon said, more needs be done.
I think the some of these from the factory maybe require a little special love at the neck pocket or base of neck where it sits in pocket.
Like Gordon said, shave a smidge off to permanently address the issue.
I doubt any "set up" will allow for the saddles to come down from the last thread to a middle of the road height or lower.

Even though I've never seen a shim in any Lakland neck pocket (import or US), I HAVE seen them in my other US basses and can't hear any negative effect.

So, I gotta wonder why the tech didn't place a shim at the headstock end of the neck pocket? A minor re-angling of the neck (using a shim) will allow the saddles to be dropped.

He would have, but I said not to.
Not for now at least.

I'm the seller, and disappointed that Dan had to deal with that.
Don't know what happened - the bass was fine when I shipped it (other than the high saddles). Good to hear that the tech remedied the neck bow.

Dan and I have talked about this issue since he got it and I hope all is fine on his end.

The bow was no biggie really. Most likely from shipping with the tension loose on the strings.
Tech fixed the bow in like 15 mins.
The high saddles seems to be more the norm than the exception with these DPLEII basses.
Not your fault at all.
Been cool working with ya from start to finish on the transaction

Clamps and glue might fix it, unless it's water damaged somehow.

Yeah, sounds like the seller is a standup guy.

Although he fell prey to the myth of needing to loosen strings during shipping. Never loosen the strings, unless you also loosen the truss... they balance each other. It's better to leave the neck in a balanced state w/ strings tuned up and the truss adjusted to correct tension.

If the neck straightened right up then no damage was done.

I actually loosen the strings on every bass I have sold to date.
I do not loosen them much, I only de tune a small amount.
To try to keep things in tact.
Maybe I will not loosen them at all from here on in.
I know some basses I have bought arrived without strings loosened. And they played great from the start.
And others with loose strings have presented hassles/buzz in the past.

Wow it sure is. I'm not a big fan of red usually but I think the guard color and the scale and color of the rosewood on the 5 string neck on that body color make it look awesome.

My Lakland Story - and sorry for the length;
A few months ago I received my second Lakland. My first, and now gone, was a skyline JO that was nice - but within weeks I was already trading out pups etc. In the end it just did not even come close to my frankenstein jazz in playability or tone. So it was traded off for a 1989 SR5. My first 5. Cool, very cool. But, I could never get used to the spacing. Band loved it though.
Fast forward to an opportunity to trade off some gear for a 55-02 with LH3 system. I simply love this bass. It is literally the very first instrument that upon playing it I have not been tempted to start "upgrading" and modding it. In fact, I am scared to even do anything to it for fear of losing the tone. I have played it in several situations now and just love it. One thing in particular I love is the response from the treble control. I can set it near off and still get a good clear tone just warmer, where most others I have experience with just throw a blanket over my amp in tone comparison. And, when boosted, it does not seem to get overly bright at all - very usable.
For 20 years now I have said I was a die hard Jazz bass player, and would never go far from that point. But, I really believe I have now found the instrument that jives with my style and music genre choices, where before I tried to make something fit the 55-02 just does naturally. That music taste happens to be the jam band seen, Umphrey's and the like.
That is enough from me, I love my 55-02 and now need to move my old SR5 off.

Love the story! I totally get where you're coming from, too... My new (to me) 55-02 is the kind of bass that does it all - and the LH-3 is perfect for getting 'that' sound without too much coloring of the tone like I would get from other pre's.

Now, if I want a passive jazz sound, I just pull up the volume knob, and set my switch to the left (60's) or to the right (70's) and I'm golden.

Now, if only I could learn how to play better...

Well there is one issue with mine. Unfortunately this bass had some fiddling around in the preamp with past owners. The volume was replaced with another that does not bypass. In fact, when I opened it up I saw someone had actually taken the LH3 out by cutting all wires mid way - so when they put it back in they did a very poor solder job with electrical tape. I had to redo every wire with better solder work and proper shrink wraps. There are other connections in there that look sketchy to me, and I think in a month or so I will replace the entire preamp with a new LH3 so my worries will be over. But, for now it sounds awesome

Just scored a brand spankin new 55-01 fretless in three-tone burst... should be here by the end of next week.

Question: When stringing through the body, is it necessary to use an extra-long scale set of DR strings, or will a regular long-scale set do the trick? I'm sure I'll be itching to get a set of Sunbeams on there within about 24 hours!

Sun Beams, although not labeled as super long, work fine on the 5-string Laklands through the body. Congratulations and welcome!
