Sadowsky basses don't sound all that great when you're practising at home. You really have to play them in a band situation to 'get' the Sadowsky magic, thanks to Roger's uniquely-voiced preamp. I've only had the pleasure of playing one Lull, and found it to be much more Fendery in sound, but still extremely well appointed. They're just as good as US Lakkies or Sads, but clock in at a slightly lower price point. But in a 'try before you buy' world, there aren't enough stores selling them to make one worth my dollar as an experiment.

However, a store in town here just started carrying them, so who knows what the future will bring me?

I am so glad she went to a good home. I miss that bass so. Not to sound weird, but it even smelled good. Like it just came off the table saw. Ok, now I feel like the creepy guy checking out who his old girlfriend is with now.

Everything you dig about the 55-94, except the electronics and body shapes are different. For me, more than anything, it's the necks--those US Lakies' necks are magic, IMO.

Vs. the others? Sadowsky is its own thing, different from Laklands in sound and vibe (more modern), as well as feel--I can't find the specs right now, but the fretboard radius feels flatter on a Sad. Great instruments, just a different deal IMO.

I've only tried a couple Lulls. They were quite nice, but I didn't think they measured up to US Laklands in terms of the necks. Maybe it's more of a preference thing, maybe it's because their necks are Plek'd whereas US Laklands are not (because Lakland thinks its techs can do better--and they do, IME). All that said, I would like to try one of the Lullbirds.

I've never seen a Nordy. Rare as hen's teeth IME.

one more iron in the fire:

The Lull 5-string neck, for me and my left hand, just feels right. YMMV of course. Didn't quite get that on any of the other brands of 5s I have owned, and I've owned a couple different ones.

And the Nordy, well I splashed around in that pool just a bit, and loved the P I had, but my US DD had something it didn't, a jazz neck, which I prefer, so it had to go. You see, in the end, its all about me.

I play my "regular" Glaub more as well, but the DS just does something I can't get from anything else. Plus, mine is especially resonant (even for a US Lakland) and has crazy BEM. Can't see ever selling it.

Ahhh yes, I remember that bass well. I played it at the shop before you bought it from Carl--really sweet in many respects, I just didn't have the coin at the time. Glad the DS got back to you!

The DPLEII I briefly had with one single Darkstar was nice.
But the US Hollowbody with dual Darskstars in truly the SH*&^%#$%!!!
I have owned many many mannnny basses and nothing has compared.
Something about a pair of those Dstars in that US HB that is something to hang onto for life.

I guess I should add IMHO of course :)

Thanks, I've kicked myself many many times for letting that bass go. I was doing the "I'm a 5 string player who can't go back to 4s" thing.... now I only need 4s playing in a cover band. Live and learn!
