Dang dudes, I had to dig to find this thread? Everyone must be busy playing their Laklands, rather than just talking about them. Of course I kid. I love talking shop too.

Well, I hooked up with Leo via Summer NAMM. Ended up with a fancy new USA JO. Sonic Blue with a tort guard. It's actually my first ever Lakland J bass. Pretty stoked on this thing. The neck is amazing. Pics soon.

That is because we are busy....yes...but some of us also learned to multi quote....

Does this mean a different sound on the next album?

Just dropping in for an update on the possible pickguard for the red 5594 with JJ Chi's. According to Carl P, there are so few 5594s with that pup configuration that there's no existing template for a 'guard, so I'd haft ship the bass back and 4th from NY........definitely not worth the hassle and expense. Carl was kind to respond, though.
If I go ahead with the idea I'll probably design one myself......possibly as advisable as removing my own appendix with a grapefruit spoon after a 5th of JD.........

You can make a template and send it to him.....just a thought. He could send you the general shape and you could measure out the specific pickup positions etc.

A fifth is all? Of course the work would look superb....until you sobered up that is.....

.....perhaps a Youtube of this inebriated, self-mutilating folly is the key to an early retirement........or an early burial......

I can make a template myself and have it done locally, or have local bass wizard Michel Fournel come up with something in Montreal. Maybe when I have some more free time. I just relocated back to Montreal after 18 years in NY and am dealing with moving details and a new job, so even playing time is suffering until the dust settles.......I'll revisit the 'guard project in the fall. For now I'm just marvelling at how sweet the passive Chi's sound through both of my rigs: Mama Bear is a Walkabout head>>>Greenboy Bassic 115 and Papa is an M9>>>LDS 15/6. It can go from old school grindy phatness to massive modern hammer.....I'm lovin' it!

Regarding the pickguard discussion, I can't decide if a white pearloid would look awesome on my cherry burst 55-94, or not. And if it's worth drilling holes in the body...

I think I can help. Check the pictures here where the cool Lakland Owners hang out:

I might be persuaded to sell you that pearl white guard...

It's all a matter of taste. but I would love that look and IMHO it's well worth drilling to install the guard. However, you can certainly install it with 2-sided tape and it'll stick just fine without drilling.

ahhh...did not know you were in Canada! that DOES make shipping back and forth a bit more tricky....

good luck on the new job endeavour!
