And that baby of yours sure comes through (even is a "mediocre" recording) after Carl's magic set up....

sounds good....looks like you have been playing longer than you have...all of the woodshedding is working girl!

As with Gary (Holdsg) I have used SKB cases (and still own one) for my lakies...they fit with no issues!

Thanks, guys. I'm liking her already even though I haven't figured out what new strings to put on her yet.

And Doug...THANK YOU. That means a lot. I walked offstage simply grateful that I hadn't puked on anyone. LOL. The nerves were that bad.

First gig went down last night and we were plagued with a myriad of difficulties. The gig was outside and they had great sound for the audience, but we felt a little lacking for parts of the band. They had two trailers set up front/back with the guitars on the front trailer and the rhythm section at the back. Plenty of space, but the guitar players are accustomed to looking left or right to give cues and drummer and I couldn't see what they were going to do next. Result was a lot of missed endings and a couple of rambling arrangements where frontman went on an unforecasted tangent. They weren't prepped for the bassist to sing at all (he doesn't in the other two bands), so they had to wire me up for vox at the last minute. Mic no problem since I carry my own and cables, but I had no monitor, so I couldn't hear myself or the other vox. Fortunately, my vocals weren't pitchy, just not in sync with what the frontman was singing.

I still had fun though - and we identified a whole lotta things we gotta fix before we do this again. But yeah - I wanna do it again.

Nice job, Tat! Regarding last night, you have the right attitude. I've been in bad bands, OK bands, and one or two that turned out to be pretty good IMO--the first gig, from a performance standpoint, is always bad. No exceptions. You just gotta dust yourself off and learn from them.:)

each gig is a learning experience!!!

I am impressed that you can sing AND play at the same time....I can "barely" do one and Cannot do the other to save my life!!!!

the gig we did a few weeks ago in the freezing cold was similar...even though the views look good from the crowd view, the actual line of sites were an issue on stage...and - even though a monitor mix check went well and the first few songs seemed to sound good, we lost 80+% of what we needed to hear on our side of the stage...so alot of "counting bars in your head", doing it "as practiced" and hoping the guys on the other side of the stage and the singers were in the same spot in teh song as you were....

outdoors is tricky!!!

you went right into the fire sista!!!

Thanks, guys. The guys in the band right now have a "burn the video" opinion, but I'm going through it tonight. I might post some of it with private links and share to get feedback so I can improve. The fun part - Even I had to laugh that I figured out how to play while I was swatting off the swarm of mosquitoes that attacked when we started to play.

Don't feel bad. I got roped into doing a gig last night with a band that I left 4 years ago. We had one practice and I know it was gonna be a disaster. The drummer was on a cocktail of meds and whiskey and was off time, off meter and had no idea what was going on. The guitarist could not remember his parts and played leads that did not fit the song. The singer used powerpoints as cheat sheets and had to open them between songs :rollno:But for some reason, the crowd loved them (notice I say them and not us) and asked them back twice a month...it was a biker bar and they were really drunk. As good as the money is I don't know if I can stand that kind of crappy band performance. My Lakies sounded GREAT tho!

you either gotts suffer through it or get creative!!!

the worst is an itch on the nose or ????? when you are playing and you have to play a full 3:45 to 5:10 before you can scratch it...seems like an eternity...and you are trying to concentrate on the song and not the itch....

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to share this cool story...

I've been using USA Laklands for the passed 10 years, but this year, I got a US Osborn which I've wanted forever. I've had it since January, so I've done a TON of gigs/sessions with it already. The other night after a really huge sold out show I did at The Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, MA, I was talking to the sound guy, who also happens to be a close friend. He's like, "Dude, that bass (US Osborn) sounds awesome! It's the first bass I've heard that has a huge bottom AND you can actually hear all the notes!" That's all I needed to hear...hands down the Joe Osborn/44-60 is THE BEST J BASS IN THE WORLD!!!! Money well spent!!

So far i really like the sound and feel of it. It feels like a big step up from my Ibanez. The longer scale and wider stringspacing will take some getting used to, but i'm sure that'll work out just fine.

Now i'll just have to practice more so my skills will match my bass...
Maybe i can join the crappy bassplayers with expensive club too... :smug:
