I put some of the D'Addario balanced tension XL's on my 55-02 and I think it sounds and plays better than it ever has!

DSCN0412.jpg

Anyone else tried these?

nope....explain....I never even heard of them.....

supposed to even the tension for each string, so that you get less variability in volume/output per string. and ostensibly more comfort. I ordered a set the other day, back order for a few weeks, but I'll give a review for the team when I get my hands on them.

Just separated with my Skyline 44-64 2010 Limited Edition...

Heya guys - things have been a bit hectic and I've been on the road and offline quite a little bit. It's now 3:08 AM where I am, and I can't really sleep. So - here's what I did today. :D

Here's the 44-64 I got recently, just finished a little Black Bart style makeover this evening - allow me to introduce - Penumbra

All black hardware and pickguard from Lakland, I'm actually keeping this one passive :D

And here's the kicker, I was told it was a 2010 when I bought it, but during the tear down I found 07-15-11 DWG written on the neck.

+1, I'll be the first to admit I don't really know what I'm doing when I take pics of my basses, but the Nikon I use at least makes them not suck as much.

well...I use a Nikon and people STILL compalin about my pics.... :atoz::hmm:

oh yeah, on topic...I like me some Laklands... ( since this is not a photography forum :) lol )

I think we're on to something here. We can talk about anything just as long as the last sentence randomly brings up playing your Lakland! Seriously, this is making me laugh....but not as much as when I play my Lakland![/QUOTE]

JUST NOW you FINALLY figured that out!????

I'm sure I will too, but right now this Lak is rocking my world and making the band sound very good too.

lak1ashx_zps145fa279.jpg

maybe playing a great bass is making you a better player??

interesting....why don't all manufacturers just "do that"?

VERY nice Brian!?

hmmm...so it is a 2011?

why the name?

I may need to look it up...

whew! finally caught up...sorry for the wave people....back to your locally metered postings!

Thanks Doude, glad you weren't too sore about the Dougy Road photo. I would have used another photo of you, but there weren't any others of you lying around. :D

Let's just put it this way "umbra" is Latin for shadow - and it's not completed obscured in shadow due to the maple headstock - so "Penumbra."

There was also a second date at the base of the neck - sometime in Feb of 2011, forgot to write the exact date down.

hmmmm...interesting....Sexy Chocolate (and your 55-02) has a 1.75 neck...measure it.....

I love 1.75 necks!!!

You misinterpreted what I was saying. I played 6ers exclusively w/ wide necks for over 15 years. But the string spacing at the nut was still roughly jazz or Stingray style (equal to a 1.5" or 1.65" 4 string). Prior to switching to 6ers in '93, it was the same: jazz or stingray nut width 4 string basses. It's the spacing, not the width.

Nice surprise!!

you already saw it a few pages ago....and asked about the "original concept"....sheesh!!!

Yeah, but there's a lightyear's difference between 'Geezer's getting a hot new bass' and 'Lakland's getting a new sig model.' The second one wasn't really all that clear.

Also, LOG site needs to get Tapatalked so that I can actually head over from time to time. You know: Bend over backwards for me, just because I'm a great guy? Yeah, yeah...
