don't know the exact differences but Carl Pedigo told me they are not the same....He did not go into details.

they are still available....just harder to get than the rounds...it seems they run out of teh flats faster...not sure if it is demand or if they order less.

I made the mistake of clicking on his profile, then gazed with some sordid amalgamation of admiration, jealous rage, worship, and disgust.

Haven't read all the posts lately, but concerning neck consistency....

I've had a lot of US Lakies and I've never noticed any variances in feel, shape, dimensions (other than expected model measurement variances). You can expect every US Lakland neck to feel... in short... perfect and consistent from one to the next. I'm picky about neck width and thickness. I'd notice small differences. Just my opinion from my experience with over 20 Laklands, mostly US.

I agree....ALL of mine feel the same.....and the Skylines don't feel much different (from a profile standpoint).....

The Carlos are "slightly different" however.

The necks are all spec cut (profiled) by CNC machine so they should all be the same....within model specs. there is some hand finishing but that should not change the profile signficantly.

Sure you post that while I'm already fighting my thinking that a DJ would be "neat" and eyed my Natural Velvet finish fretless MM Sterling as my next potential "outbound" candidate.. Or could have Carl fret it... (I think I "voted" against that earlier in this thread but it's rather obvious that I'm fickle...)

**Now THIS bass is cool! Hence why I'm up in the air about it. It's actually one of THE first JOs to get Chi Sonic pickups. Lakland sent it to Ian, the fella that does all of the sound clips for the website. He had to send it back so they could have it review by Bass Player, and Ian found a way to get it back in his possession after the review and kept it. It has a phenomenal neck, and the chis have something special to em. It's actually THE bass on the website and (of course) in the sound clips: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] but here's my rub...I really don't like Ice Metallic Blue. I have toyed with the idea of a refin, but it's got a really cool history and I would kind of be wrecking the unique story by changing the appearance. That being said, I realize I refin'd Juan's darkstar JO... but that one is absolutely a keeper forever. If I changed this bass up, I would feel obliged to keep it forever as well. Otherwise, I could sell it and get another bass with colors that I did like. Call me vain, but that's where I'm at!

Frankenfender with a G&L pickup. It's a MIM P, 1.625" nut. A surprisingly cool bass! Got it as a gift for helping my boss settle into his new position by taking on a bulk of his responsibility for a few weeks as he transitioned in.

Well, I still have um 4 basses that aren't Laklands. Plus a Clevinger EUB and a Chapman Stick if I get in dire need for justification and post-acquisition wife appeasal purging.

Then there're amps. I seem to have less problems with will power for amp GAS than Lakies. If you hadn't noticed.

The one is ebony with maple inlays (stained to look like Bubinga - they were supposed to be Bubinga inlays but we had a miscommunication). The fretless is a Bubinga board with ebony inlays.

I've gotta say, this BG DS that I have is one of the nicer basses that I own. Sound, of course, but especially feel. I have NO IDEA how I got Matt to sell it to me!

Thanks! It's 1.5". My favorite is 1.625"/B/modern P bass width, which is what I requested on my other Lakie, a surf green Glaub w/vintage Hanson pickup I received in late 2011. But this one is very comfy, too.

You're not the first one to say they were haunted by it! I bought it from Ryan Owens (great guy) on TB in 2010, and it's a stone-cold keeper. Light, very resonant, and lots of birdseye on the board. I'm actually not crazy about the gold, but haven't yet gotten the nerve to refinish it. I know Pat W. does amazing work, I'm just not sure I want to mess with the mojo of this bass.

I always thought that with a fresh set of rounds it would do the marcus slap thing with a unique tone. And that the gold just screams costumes and disco... party! That's such a common gig that I figured.

I have the gold JO w/ maple board... Seeing this pic makes me think that the black gaurd I just got for it will drastically improve the look of it.
