exactly. I don't know the exact process for necks at Lakland (I think I know some dirty deets, but it's all speculation...and I don't wanna spot some inaccurate details)
but especially since there's been different luthiers, and I believe they're all shaped by hand (?) they'll all vary some.
That being said, I am beginning to think that I prefer the feel of the US JO necks over their other models.

I think your DJ4 might be my favorite Lakland in the known universe. And I'm betting since it's not in your possession, it no longers exists in the pictured form. Thus my favorite Lakland no longer exists in the universe?!You can see it's wider.
I guess I'd have expected that at least the Skylines would be consistent since there is less luthier artistry involved in those.
I think it has EBMM Cobalts on it. The growl is from the Darkstar, though the rounds enhance it. I did try it with flats but didn't like it.

Wilkens has it. It is becoming Ice Blue.It will get a Mint Guard that I'll shape slightly differently from most DJ guards. Lollipop tuners (Anyone have a set of Hipshot Lolli's that wants to trade a D tuner(I have and would trade) for a normal one??) And Frallins instead of the areos.

OK, can you provide a rundown--and hopefully a picture--of all your Laklands? You've got a lot more than I realized!
That's interesting. I have a US Dunn w/a Darkstar and a Skyline HB with two. They do have sensitivity at the very top end if you have bright strings on. But I think they have low end for days.

I made the mistake of clicking on his profile, then gazed with some sordid amalgamation of admiration, jealous rage, worship, and disgust.
Haven't read all the posts lately, but concerning neck consistency....
I've had a lot of US Lakies and I've never noticed any variances in feel, shape, dimensions (other than expected model measurement variances). You can expect every US Lakland neck to feel... in short... perfect and consistent from one to the next. I'm picky about neck width and thickness. I'd notice small differences. Just my opinion from my experience with over 20 Laklands, mostly US.

My US HB has two Darkstars in it.
When I bought it... it came with some type of flats on it.
I found the flats made the bass more low and thumpy than I like.
I switched them out for a set of DR Low rider nickles and LOVE IT!
I get tons of mid...great lows...and as much highs as I could ever want.
The DR's give the Darkstars a great voice!
Tons of snap and snarl.

Oh wow, I just saw that 44-51.*drool* If I didn't have a wedding and honeymoon in June, I'd be all over that!
Well, they are out on the Lākland store, but I'm sure that's temporary... MY supply dried up as in, PBG had a dozen sets or so and sold out... I even let go of the 2 or 3 I had squirreled away for "store use"
I really should stop turning people into cool stuff.
Don't think so....I think the neck is a 7.5" radius...although maybe Marus can coment...since he keeps up the Lakland web site.
I asked Carl a bit ago to confirm that the DJ had a more rounded profile and he confirmed it. He said that the prototype DJ came from Cortech with a different profile than the JO neck profile....Dan etal liked it and it just "stuck".
this was true for both the DJ4 and DJ5.
I think flats on the HB would be really cool! If I ever got a HB, it would get flats (at least initially). (I know Lee I know....argh!)
I have never really been a flats guy...I like "zing" BUT I will have to admit that I tried flats when I was not in a band and did not have the live band reference.
I have JO flats on my JO5 fretless and they sound GREAT in a band setting. Still not thrilled with them when I am just plunking around in my music room though.
I also have a set of lighter gauge Sadowsky black label flats on my MK Dragnfly acoustic...rounds are too "clanky" on an acoustic bass...
I have a set of Sadowsky black label flats "in reserve" for a special project...
will see....
