Never really got the whole flatwound thing. I mean, sure Jamerson used them, even Steve Harris uses them, but I could never get them to sound like anything but "dead." Maybe my playing style just isnt conducive to them. I even like rounds on fretless bass.

That is sweet lookingh bass. Are those the Kent Armstrong lipsticks or were they made by Hanson for lakland back when they were 2 companies. How do they sound compared to lipsticks and chi's???

i think i am sold on the flats being made by GHS. instead of my fav labella flats for all my Ampegs, Danos and a couple of old fenders. Just need to figure out if there is any different specs on the lakland branded.

I hear and you and I agree most of the time having switched to RW on my 72 Pbass back in 74. Brands have changed from roto to K smith to Labella to fodera thru the years and lean toward nickel more for fret issues than sound per say.
But certain bass sounds I hear in my head can only get thru my amp with a bass with flats.... motown old pbass., nrbq - old dano bass, certainly old ampeg scroll basses as RW cause the early mystery pickup ampeg to be almost impossible to play with any tone on as the sounds is awefull with overtones and harmonics that make no sense as Everett Hull was trying to recreat a standup bass and I am pretty sure he didn't believe in the electric bass when they first came out and amplified a standup was the way to go whether it be the scroll bassses or even the B 15 .


I have the luxury??? of lots of great basses and 4 to 5 gigging projects , although never enough as they say!!!, so i can have that flats only pbass or etc..
tome the Burgundy Lakland hollow body really needs a set of flats on it. Maybe if i really miss the RW aspects of the bass it will give me reason to get another one in another color, not Blue :p , and put RW on that one or maybe i will try 1/4 rounds and see if it makes both sides of my brain happy. I need some more good things to look forward to after tomorrow.

I just got word that a few custom made basses are just about finished and ready to be delivered but they were ordered before i got sick, (actually probably not but before i knew about it) so maybe I can justify another lakland. Need to convince myself or sell some other stuff......

I used to love flats for my jazz. It gave me a nice thick sound and took out some brightness. Since I got this Hollowbody, I've put rounds back on my Jazz. The flats fit the HB perfectly, and I am starting to appreciate the rounds for a lot more songs. They each have their use, but I still like flats the best.

Hmm... Maybe I need a Hollowbody then. Pretty much all my basses are in the "Jazz" family. I do love Jack Cassidy...
