I have 2 early US Laklands basses, #191 and # 368. The classic shape body 44-94. Could you tell me why some of them have pickguards and other doesn't ? Is it possible to buy these pickguards ? Where ?

those are hot....

The "classic" versions have pickguards standard...others do not.

Lakland can hook you up with guards if you want them BUT I say "DON'T DO IT"...

Could not even keep a straight face for three periods.....

happens ALL of the time.....GAS still exists but I am out of room so something "should go" at this point...and there is nothing in the collection I do not like or cannot find a use for....

Just when I think..."yeah...that one MIGHT go if something comes up..." I play "IT" and say..."Keeper"....much experimentation and many basses were sacrificed for the current stable....

...right now, the bass would have to be 3 steps above "WOW!" for me to consider it...(ok...maybe 2 steps....oh who am I kidding? I LOVE ANY LAKIES!!!)....

If anyone who has an "in" at Lakland, my oak tree collapsed and it looks like there maybe some good grain and spalt for tops....they can have it for the price of one of the basses produced. it was almost 80 ft tall and the base circumference was almost 14ft.

Wow that is pretty crazy. I just talked to Carl Pedigo yesterday. If I had seen this, I woulda let him know! I'm sure he could get the information to the right channels.

Anyways, I was talking to him yesterday because for some time we've been talking about him building a sister B-G to the "Carribean Burst" 54-95 I have that is set up E-high C. He was curious if maybe instead of making it a Lakland, if I would want to make it a "Pedigo" bass. I said I didn't care. Frankly a Carl Pedigo bass is a Carl Pedigo bass no matter what it says on the headstock.

So we were going to go with a Mahogany body, but he can't find anything light enough, so we're going to go with an alder body, ebony board, this crazy birdseye maple for the neck itself, and this beautiful 30+ year old flame maple top he bought from a harp maker a few years ago. THREE Chi humbuckers, passive: Vol, Vol, Vol, Tone....with a pull-up on each volume for single coil. Dark Cherry burst (technically Gibson's "Bourbon Burst" He said the neck is already in so we're moving right along! Getting pretty excited!

Seriously! Just so strange I've been playing, buying, and selling basses for the last 15 years only to come to the conclusion that the bass that is essentially "Me" are built only an hour away from my house. Can we say "DANGEROUS?!?!"

.....It's a risk I'm willing to take though! ;-)
