A darkstar is/was the intention in the medium- to long-term plans. But I will certainly give the stock pickup a fair shake first. Probably would source another DS rather than strip the Dude.
Wife and kids just left for a bit so I got to plug it in and check it out. Sounds good so far but it's sure no DS.
And I really hate to "say" this out loud but.. My first impression is that the Dude's neck feels way better. I need more time but, um, that's definitely not at all what I expected. The neck feels so different that I actually broke out the tape measure to make sure it was 1.5" nut width. (And yes, it is 1.5")

Just a quick thought on this, but I had a similar reaction to my first US Lakland JO. Everyone talked about the necks being so great and the one I got was sorta sub-par, nice but not amazing. Then I performed the recommended neck care from Carl and sanded it with scotch bright and orange oiled it and it was totally different. At that time I had a Skyline Duck Dunn as well and with the neck maintenance performed it was not even a contest. The satin smooth feel of the B&B skyline neck is nice, but it really can't compare to the US neck. Just my opinion.
Hmm could be. It seems more about the shape and how it fits in the hand rather than finish or texture.
Doing a cheap plug here, I put my Lakland Skyling 55-64 up for sale in the classifieds if anyone is interested, I really love this bass, but I'm selling it and a few other things so I can get a US Lakland. Finally caving into temptation.......
Congrats! You won't regret it... except the addiction will grow stronger and consume you, eventually taking over your every thought. But at least you're in good company here with us. I'm Jody Jordan or JJ or Jedi... I've been an addict since buying my first 55-94 in 2007 (had never touched or seen a Lakland). I've owned around 20.
I have been wanting a US for so long, With the new 55-14 they are in reach, of course I have to sell some things, but that's ok, I'm nut using much of it anyway. Now the wait begins.
Hey guys, I'm soon to be the proud owner of either a skyline decade or hollowbody. Which one would y'all recommend for just a great all around bass? I play a lot of indie rock and psychedelic stoner rock. Also I've seen pictures of the hollow body with a pick guard, any place you can get those for the skyline model? Thanks guys
Hollowbody pickguards are always custom; Lakland doesn't use them. That being said, you can make a template of your own and send it to Jeannie Pickguards or Quick Guards.
I just put a set of D'Addario XL balanced tension strings on my 55-02D and love 'em. The weekend gigs were a pleasure to play and the 55-02 sounded great as ever. Give them a try. I didn't know what I was missing until using a balanced tension set. Really nice.
+1 on tensioned sets. Someone in the last thread asked about my Circle K balanced 5 string set. They've settled in after a few weeks of playing and they're the best wounds I've ever played. Plus, its a 0.150 set....daaaayummmn that B sounds good!
Lakland can cut the one that's on my HB. They have the template.

Thanks! I actually think this and the Decade are great choices. For me...they are ties, but I like the HB's bridge pickup placement way more.
