The Skyline factory requires a certain minimum number for a run--in the old days it was 30, now I think it's at least 50 (maybe 100). The fret markers make this a pretty specialized bass with a narrow target market, IMO. So I can see why they wouldn't go Skyline, at least right away. If they get enough demand, they could go that route later. That's what they did with the Decade, sort of--the first Skyline Decades were originally a Dude Pit limited edition order.

I dig the Geezer, BUT those tuner knobs seem to REALLY stick out of the head.
It would be cool if they could match the stripe pattern of the scratch plate onto the bridge, as well.

Lakland likes the long-stem tuning machines on their US basses. I haven't decided whether or not I like them relative to the shorter length found on Skylines. I feel like the hardware on this bass should be black, and I agree with others that the board should have been ebony...
I dig the long-stem ones myself, probably for the vintage-ish look. But I've never let the short ones stop me from buying a Skyline.
would Lakland sell me just that pick guard?

Looks like I might have purchased my first Lakeland- the 55 01 deluxe in the classifieds. This will also be my first 35" scale fiver. Any thoughts or comments for a Lakie newbie?
Just saw your post over in the classifieds Pickles...I love that bass. I have a standard 5501 (natural ash/maple) and LOVE it. I downgraded from a Roscoe and outside of the boutique touches this bass fills the itch. I did upgrade my preamp to a Delano and enjoyed the change albeit small. I plan on changing the pups. My only gripe (as you will see) is that the stock pups are fairly uneven across the strings tonewise..but this is minor and fixable with variations of playing style
