55-02/94 FRETLESS owners:

What strings do you like on your bass? I have chromes on mine, but I'm not sold. Thinking of putting my pure blues back on, or maybe TI flats.

What do you use/ recommend? I'm looking for good MWAAAHHH.

I really love the DR LoRider in stainless steel. It took 40+ years, but I finally found strings I like. They are on all my fretless basses. Great low-mids and authoritative. Im pretty sure most the strings I have liked have been hex core. Although I like the DR Sunbeams a lot too.

I used to use the LoRiders SS exclusively. My go to strings of the last couple of years have been letting me down. I think they are having some QC issues. Have seen some comments about them here on TB.

I will go back and try the LowRiders again. One of the main things I look for is consistency in quality. My other strings were great, but the E and A strings I noticed died super fast as others had commented. Thanks for the post, reminded me of how I used to feel about the LowRiders, to be continued.

The chrome knobs I had on my 55-14 never looked right so I finally picked up a set of these elegant black aluminum knobs from Love My Switches. I used two of the larger “Eagle” knobs for the volume and blend and three of the smaller “Falcon” knobs for the EQ. They say they’re for solid shaft potentiometers but the double set screws work perfect on a split shaft.

And yes, I bought multiple sets to swap out all the 01s, 02, and 94s out.

The black looks fantastic. I like the smaller sizes for the tone knobs. Looking sharp!

That looks soo classy! I did a mix of large and small of the same knobs on my 44-01. Large for vol/bal and EQ and one small one for 6 position rotary Z mode selector.

I like how the black knobs with the white level lines ties in with the black guard and white outline. I think these work better visually than the chrome knobs.

Anybody have experience with LaBella tape wound strings on a Lakland? I have them on a Rob Allen Mb-2 and really like them. Considering getting another set for my 55-02.

not on a Lakland, but I would not hesitate to put Labella Tapes on any bass. I also had them on a Rob Allen, and prefer them to the D'addario tapes (that feel and sound more like coated rounds)

I like them with a piezo but on nothing else. Had them on my (sold) Rob Allen and they're on my Godin LR Baggs Acoustibass.

They’re great strings and by far the best tapes out there but they are super super low tension

If you can handle that then they are fantastic and can be surprisingly snappy when you dig in

A Lakland serial number question.

I am interested on a 44-94, serial number 10728. S/N info on Lakland’s website only goes up to 2009.

Does S/N 10728 mean it was built in 2010? Does this make sense for a 44-94?

That serial doesn't make any sense for a 44-94. Do you have a picture of it?

No....That ONLY works for Skylines.
