Lakland Owners Group #69

I like to solo the neck half of the bridge pickup if I need something that sits more prominent in the mix. I'll even boost the mids a little (I habe mine set at the highest on the Bart preamp...850hz?) to get some additional growl. It sounds slightly more open to me than both coils of the bridge while still maintaining some low end.

More typically I'll split the bridge pickup to the neck side, and set the blend knob not quite evenly with the J pickup (blend slightly toward the bridge). With a slight mids boost I get a sound that is fat and supportive in the mix but still cuts clearly through when needed.

Here is the picture the seller sent to me. This is advertised as a Lakland USA 44-94 Deluxe.

He told me the last digit of the S/N is 8, but in the photo it looks more like a B.....

Tuners look correct. Is it possible it’s a B stock?

Lakland USA 44-94 Deluxe Quilted Maple Bass Guitar - Natural | Reverb

That's this one, right? If nothing else, the battery compartment in the back has been replaced, USA's don't have Fishman ones... Personally I would want to see the inside of the control cavity, make sure it's a USA body... and I'd want a better price than that too :D

I just heard from Brian at Lakland. Sent him the photo of the serial number. He says this neck was replaced in 2021. Enough questions here that I will keep looking and find another bass.

Thanks to all who responded. I appreciate the wealth of knowledge I find here!

I forgot that Lakland will make new necks for basses and reuse the serial numbers. I bought a bass neck because of this. They wanted a maple neck so Lakland made a new one and then they sold the rosewood fretboard one to me. Both necks had the same serial number. So somewhere out there is a maple necked Glaub that Lakland will tell you is a rosewood neck based on the serial number. I would guess thats what happened here and whoever bought the neck mated it to a Skyline body. Thats what I did with mine. Which leads me to this.....

I sold that bass on Reverb after I had it for awhile. I advertised it for exactly what it was...a USA Glaub neck on a LPB Skyline body. Beyond the body everything else was USA made. Anyway it sold pretty affordably and the buyer turned around and listed it as a USA Glaub. I called him out and he took it down then he traded it in to CME by telling them it was a USA Lakland. CME listed it on Reverb and I notified them, provided all of the information, and they pulled the listing and gave it back to the guy I sold it to. A month later I saw it listed at GC as a USA Lakland. I called the store and they listened to my story and told me that the bass they had was a USA Lakland and sold it. I feel terrible that I unleashed it into the world. Great bass but it wasn't meant to rip people off. If any one of you own this bass currently (its a LPB Glaub with a rosewood jazz width neck. Finish wear near the nut) I will happily trade you for Totally original 100% USA LPB Glaub. I just feel bad someone somewhere got ripped off. I want that thing of the streets. Serial number is BG457

I decided to tell the seller what I learned. Possibly he did not know, but now he does. Will see if/how he responds.

Thanks again to all of you for helping me sort this out!

Two can play at the $5k game... I don't think it was that much new (there was a similar one locally that I was drooling over for awhile, might be the same one, not too many maple- NOT buckeye :D- burl topped 55-94's around...

I almost made it back into the Club here. Missed a couple of 44-64 and decided not to go forward with one that had a Lakland Jazz neck on it.

My loss, but I'm really sold on 5ers and I just found stingray with some multicoils and a Lusthand pre that I really bought for the components. So I'm still on the search for that Lakland 5er P bass, sunburst with Tort and a jazz neck bound a blocked.

Problem is I'm now over my 2 bass rule. Not a problem is I now have a 3 bass rule and one to flip.

I'll be a club member again one day. But this is still my home when I first log in.
