Pardon my ignorance but wouldn't a Skyline DJ5 be a close replacement option? Outside what may be a very slight difference in neck profile, body size and control plate they're hard to tell the difference. And the DJ5 is readily available in LPB.

They do seem to have more DJ5's out there, but I just can't get along with them. They don't look or feel right to me - I'm a sucker for the traditional Fender jazz body shape, but with all the Lakland improvements.

Lakland has 3 Skyline 55-60’s in stock. They are all natural with maple, roasted maple and ebony boards.

You can always order your dream 55-60 as well!!

Good call, I haven't checked the newsletter in a while. I'll give them a call and see if one of those is up my alley. I'm not big on the natural body, but maybe with a contrasting ebony board I can be convinced. Thank you!

I saw that too but I think the point is that you can’t find them listed anywhere except as one offs. It’s not like their retailers have 5560 options out there other than the ash and maple. At least I think that was his point. It’s definitely something I have noticed as well.

And the DJ5 is great but the body shape etc doesn’t appeal to me either

As for 5560 and 5564 if you are interested in a classic series ( even though they are not officially listed) you can email [email protected] and they will help you out.

My pair of Skylines I absolutely Love. Had a USA 5 string PJ but sold it on here to go back to 4s and found a great deal locally on the Duck Dunn P bass. I've had the DJ Chisonic since 2008. Don't think I'll part with either but I do need to get a Pearl pickguard on the DD.

The 55-64 that sold. Did love this bass and the tone. It was actually lighter than my 2 Skylines as well.

Very cool! Looks like you have everything covered with those two. I don't think I've seen a DJ with Chi Sonics before; mostly seen them in the 44/55-60 basses.

A local shop near me carries Lakland and usually has a number of 44/55-02s in rotation. Surprising they seems to always have a Skyline 55-60 in stock and they sell quickly. However, the shop always orders the same natural/maple/white pickguard combo every time. I jokingly remind them that there are other colors available.

It’s the only combination I ever see nowadays. Makes me wonder if that is all they are making available to retailers

...And I'm really back!
Like, really really back

A while ago I wrote I was Laklandless and not looking forward to get another Lakland in any foreseeable future, sadly. To sweeten the pill, I was looking for a donor to implement my custom (over-) wound LH-3 MME/MME set. There was always something missing in most variants, and a few suitable basses slipped away in auctions, so I bit the bullet and bet on a Lakland and... it slipped away!
And the other Lakland that I wanted less, slipped away too!
You don't tell!
So finally I snatched a black Shoreline 55-95 Classic mfd. by ESP. Funny thing is, she was bought on my behalf in Japan by my old friend who now owns my old black Shoreline 55-94 Classic! Only the old one was with rosewood and the new one is maple.

Interestingly, I read a book just lately written by my friend who is a Lakland Artist, and he actually mentions me in it getting him into the Lakland thing around 2007, which would have been with the abovementioned 'old' black Shoreline Classic with rosewood. That one was my 2nd Lakie ever, which means I probably hit my 20th Lakland madness anniversary lately.

Also, the current one is my 10th)))))



Now, what do I do with the Lakland MME/MME set...?

My son and his wife are going to be spending about 3 weeks in Japan very soon.

I was trying to talk them into buying me a Shoreline and shipping it back home.

Obviously I would pay for the BASS and the shipping.

But they say they don't want to be responsible for it.

I guess I just need to figure out another way to get to Tokyo for another trip.

You should get a Shoreline in your hands and maybe a Skyline Japan because to the extent of my knowledge nobody from the US has had a chance to

make an honest review yet, and who else if not you Doug!

Skylines Japan 4-strings may be found for as little as $500-ish in Japan (strangely, 5-strings appear seldom and cost twice as much as a rule). Of course, they use off-the-shelf pickups and electronics, but could make a nice modding platform
