Yes ear but you need to find the right note as well.... And a nicely set up bass assists in that ( as do the lines....I know I'm a wimp!)
Always treating my instruments like a Harley/custom shop, I swapped out the stock pickups and electronics to try out the Aguilar AG 5MJ-HC set and Bartolini HR-5.4AP/918 preamp. The short version is I'm very pleased with the end results. Interestingly enough, the Jazz/neck pickup was longer than the stock Lakland neck cavity so I had to dremel out some of the wood to make it fit in there. Worked out just fine. The Bart EQ goes both higher and lower than the stock so that's been fun to play around with from dub-styles to everything else.
Running it all through the trusty Aguilar DB 751 and GK Neo IV cabs. Pretty fun so far. I also sanded down the glossy finish on my 55-94 and coated it with tru-oil

Hi all. I have a 2010 USA Glaub that I like very much. I've been wanting to get a 5-string in my collection. The classifieds has a lovely 2004 Joe Osborne. Any thoughts or opinions on this instrument? The player wear is not an issue for me so long as the neck is dent free and hardware works smoothly. I've never owned a 35" scale bass so there is that uncertainty.

I don't even think of it. I guess my playing isn't technical enough for it to be a factor.
I found it a pretty easy transition.
The way Lakland does it... It feels more like a 34-1/2" scale
Also... The neck width at the nut is 1.75" so if you are used to std P neck that should feel similar
I am really wanting to get a fretless - something with a preamp, even a Carlo would be nice - very slim pickings for good fretless basses here in Canada outside of Fender's, which I have had and sold, were uninspiring - Lakland's here are so hard to find and so much more expensive - I wish I could land a Carlo or a Lakland fretless, if ever any body is interested in unloading with the caveat of shipping to Canada... did I just do that again? haha

Doug(Basspraiser) and I met at Lakland today with Carl.
I had him do a set up on my Carlo. Doug had him do some adjustments on his Carlo fretless.
Doug also picked up his Skyline 44-64 after a repaint. A beautiful bass.
Carl is just the greatest guy. So knowledgeable and gracious with his time.
It's always fun to see what he has around his small shop.
Here are a few pictures I snapped
