Conventional pup positions take into consideration many things, including harmonics. Changing the scale length without altering the pup placement proportionally is pretty risky. If it sounds good, it is good, but I'd be concerned about losing a lot of content in certain notes. It would be really interesting to compare a 34" 4401, one note at a time, with the 32" version.....musty be comfy as old slippers to play :-)

It took me a while but I managed to sell some stuff thayt had been up for some time.. What I hate are the folks who low ball you .. insultingly. I can di=g trying to get a bit more.. I do it myself.. but if a bass is selling with a price drop at say $600 and you come up with a low ball of $475.. I mean .. really?

This price isssssssssssss giving the bass away....... I have seen many us Laklands on here for sale that were repaints...pup swaps...tons of gig time...this and that selling for the $2,300 - $2,700 price point...in the past 5 years here on TB... So mine? For $2,750!!!! shipped and insured....... Being as brand new and un used with ivory case as new...plastic on tuners never taken off...for a HUGE savings off the new selling price...under warranty? Is U-N-R-E-A-L cheap!! If no Loggers grab it in the next day or two, I guess I will list it on feebay for $3,600 and go from there...

I kind of like the bump thing... it allows posts to stay on the foirst few pages for a reasonable amount of time.. Before a thread could be bumped to page 6 in a day...

The "one bump a day" thing was a rule before the forum-style change FWIW- they just made it part of the software rather than trying to police it as before (I got a warning once on the old forum for bumping it after 22 hours rather than 24).

I also don't mind it- when I first joined TB there would be people that would seemingly bump their own threads all day long and us day-jobbers stuff would get buried in no time!

True, but any replies to your thread would effectively bump the thread. I believe that is what Mrfstop was referring to.

The way they have the classifieds set up does not allow people to bump threads...

I do believe that the older functionality allowed a thread to be a "hot topic" and generate excitement. But, I also used to get frustrated with threads that would get bumped, just because, without any real information being added to the thread. The "fairness" does seem to have sapped some of the vigor out of the whole experience, both as a seller and buyer, but it is what it is.

Ah- my understanding was that they did away with the original idea that other people couldn't bump threads for you. There were a bunch of folks up in arms about them changing it, so I'm pretty sure they changed it back within the first week. I could be wrong though...
Maybe I'll go bump someone else's classified thread to find out!

I just tested and I was able to bump someone else's classified thread FWIW- it is only your own classified threads that you can only bump every 24 hours...

I have no problems with the new format, and I love the dark display option. As far as classifieds go, 1 man's low-ball is another man's last gasp chance at a sale. Don't take things personally. People can offer/accept whatever they chose...or not :).

I do, however, have an issue with people stating clearly that they are buying, and then disappearing. If someone changes his mind before payment, or even before I ship, I have no issue, but it's common courtesy to notify the seller that one is backing out. I have also had occasions where I make a trade offer, am then asked for pics or more details, and instead of sending me a friendly "no thanks", the seller never responds. Rude a$$hats are, unfortunately common in the human race.

That is correct. I don't mind the restriction in theory as there are other forums I am on that have the same setup however the one here is distinctly different in an annoying way. The 24 hours is always from the last post where as on other forums it's always set to the time of the initial post. So if someone ends up bumping my post for me after 24 hours I now have to wait 24 hours from whatever ridiculous time they might have bumped it.

Back on the subject of low-balls, it's amazing how subjective that is. There's a bass FS on TB (and eBay) with an ask of fully 90% of its' new, street price. I offered 80% of new and the seller behaved as though he was insulted. In other cases, sometimes I will make a low offer, with a clear explanation that I am simply offering a price I am willing to pay now, and fully understand if the seller prefers to wait for a higher price. My offer is always based on what the item is worth to me at that moment. It's not intended as an insult and IMHO should not be taken as one. In many cases sellers accept a low offer and are happy to make the sale. I know I have done that as a seller many, many times. I have also occasionally seen the items I sold for low prices reposted for profit.....no problem......I have no issue with that either. YMMV.

When other TB members would drop by the for sale thread it would bump the thread back to first page standing..
That was great if you where part of groups and had people who would buddy bump the thread.
Now that is gone..too bad. :(

Before I embark on another 5501 experiment, if there is anyone who has an uber light (MUST truly be under 8.5lbs) 5594 or 5502 and wants to trade down for cash plus my minty 5501 (bought used, has Aggie soapbars and OBP3, TTB/rw, 8.8 lbs) just let me know. As long as yours is light and has no functional issues, color, fretboard and esthetic condition don't mean much to me in this deal.

I hate to harp on this and would prefer talking about basses but the bump thing and having friends put you on the first page is silly. I'd ask the question of why you would need this if you've got a good bass at the right price. I can scroll through the FS threads back to the last time I was on and find anything new posted. I've bought and sold a bunch of basses in the past few months in little time. I'd suggest if you've got a real beef take it up with a mod or start a different thread.

BTW a hollow 30 went up on the block recently, love mine!

Marketing 101: Repeatedly and incessantly shove the crap product in customers faces until they buy at a ridiculous price point to maximize margins.

But yes, can we move along :)

Here's a thought out of the blue, adding a piezo to a 4-94. Can it be done without significantly modifying the instrument?

Hello fine folks of Talkbass! Yes, first post, yes I'm new... Guitar player here, soon to turn 45, decided to add some low end in my small home studio... Got a great deal on a Yamaha BB605 a while ago (active pups) and I'm playing through a Yorkville 400w head in a Fender Rumble 4x10 cab. Humble bass rig and I'm no Geddy Lee or Marcus Miller, I'm just having a good time playing bass!! Recently got the itch (STRONG ITCH) for a jazz bass, so I have the chance to buy a Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn (fiver) locally, I think the price is good ($700 canadian dollars), the bass is all stock, no breaks or anything... I'm just wondering what to expect from that bass... I will make the move this weekend... So please feel free to tell me the pros and cons...
