The Lakland necks on my two 55-94’s are are works of art. If there are any dead spots I’m not aware of them and I’m all over the fingerboard.

My experience has been that five string instruments, in general, don't suffer from dead spots like 4 strings. I assumed it was due to the extra mass of the neck.
We often hear wolf tones on the A string of double basses. Thats’ a function of their acoustics. I don’t think that’s possible on a solid Brody EB.
Here is the newly acquired 2008 JO 44-60 - in pretty good shape for 17 years old - Tons of output, fat tone - those Fralins are impressive! I had not gone back to a Jazz bass set up in a long time, this was a great experiment 
- missing the one chrome screw on the pickguard - does anyone know the exact size off hand? I wouldn't mind changing the pickguard too - anyone have one that fits the JO? Otherwise, I doubt I will find one in Canada! Here are some pics as promised:

pretty sure you can get pick guard screws from stewmac, or Allparts, or Best Bass Gear, or someplace like that.
Thanks all - I removed the pick guard - too bad there are so many screw holes, love the look without it - it was a total mismatch of screws too - I will touch base with Lakland see what they have on offer!

I believe there is an option to have the basses without a pickguard. The original owner may have installed one on his own.
This is a Skyline, they all have pickguards.
I own a Skyline Decade Active with Chi sonics. I hopped on the initial run back in the Dude Pit days. Only 30 of these were made. Crafted in Indonesia, Finished in Chicago. Great instrument.
First impressions (and kind of comparing it to my main axe, a Music Man Caprice)
- This is a chunky boy; the weight of the body keeps it balanced just fine, no neckdive. Both an advantage and a disadvantage
- Perfectly set up as mentioned earlier
- Pickups are HOT; very authoritative tone
- Heard good stories about the neck, was hyped up tot he point it could only be a disappointment and then it was not, even better than expected
- The bridge PU (jazz) really adds some dimensions to the tone; should not be played solo IMHO, it’s an addition to the presicion pickup at the neck. This differs from the Caprice, who has a humbucker disguised as a jazz element which can carry itself.
- My main objective was getting that thump. It delivers but is more versatile than that
- The pictures do no justice to the gorgeous coating, LOVE the color
- The pickups have relatively sharp edges compared to the design of the ones of the Caprice. It’s one of those things you don’t notice until the comfort is not there I guess. Not really an issue, just a tactile observation.
- It invites a very relaxed style of playing, no hand strain after a couple of hours of playing.
Glad you are enjoying it. That bass certainly is beautiful and love the color with the tort guard. I can't tell from the photo and not sure if you mentioned previously but is that a Skyline or USA model? Also love those inlays. I have those in my Skyline 44-60. The white pearloid block with the black pearloid crescent in the corner is really a cool aesthetic. Keep us posted on your thoughts as you continue to play it.
It's a Skyline and it does have a jazz neck. I have very small hands, so this helps me getting access to the frets higher up the neck and is the reason I wanted the custom 44-64.

Oooh, very nice! Metallic blue was the runner up for me because I heard it really looks captivating due to the color changing with the lighting.
Yeah, it's cool. In my photo, it definitely looks blue but at times it looks silver. I noticed slight hues of purple pop out in certain lighting as well. Neat finish for sure.
The Shoreline I bought in Japan has now made it home to papa. Just had to make a few tweaks and it’s now perfect for me. Raised the neck pickup a bit. Dunlop strap locks. And DR Pure Blues. Action hasn’t needed any attention yet. Waiting for it to settle into the dry Nevada climate. Sounds just like a jazz bass should.
