I don't know much about that particular bass but I will tell you that it will fit in perfectly with your band.

That is also a killer finish.... And that bird's eye maple neck is fantastic.

I took the plunge and picked up this one I mentioned earlier. I was looking for what I imagined would be the quintessential Lakland experience so the idea of a early (5143) US 55-94 with the Bart pickup and pre along with the figured maple top and birdseye maple board really appealed to me. This one seems to be in fantastic shape by all accounts and I’m looking forward to checking it out. Hoping for something a little less aggressive in the highs than my Sadowsky but without loosing any of the fat low end. It’s been a while since I’ve had a five string much less a 35 scale so that will take some getting used to. I’ll be sure to post pics when I get it in my hands.

You are going to love the 35" scale and the B string. Sadowsky killer IMHO.

I bought a 55-94 over the summer based on a Nashville pro I talk to using it in the studio for years. However, the preamp has me befuddled. I'm so used to my passive fender thing. The 55-94 sounds weird playing solo in the bedroom, but when I get it in a mix it is gorgeous and the B string is unreal. I can't figure that out. Its does not take to my pedals well and wants to be plugged in direct and just sound awesome. I've listed the 55-94 thinking I should stay passive (I also have a 2004 USA JO5), but the more I play the 55-94 the more I like it. It's an education.

Keep trying with it.
I too have many basses that seem to sound out of place when they are played by themselves or with a soundtrack but in a live band situation they fit the bill exactly.

I can't describe it either but it seems to work that way.

Also, you might try and experiment with the mid frequency internal dip switches settings on the preamp.

I have two 55-02's here, and one sounded better to me than the other.

Turns out the mid EQ's DIP switches were set different on each.
Once I changed the one I didn't like as much- they both now sound like what I want.

I bumped up the mid frequency dip switch to the 900hz setting after trying several.

Does the bart pre in the older 55-94’s have a passive tone control? I remember a Bart pre that I had in a Lull M4V had a Bart with a passive tone control that also worked when it was in active mode. I just don’t remember the model. Although thinking about it I believe it might have been just the way it was wired after the pre.

No they do not.

Neither does the LH3.

There is a passive tone control that was a option on some basses.

It has to be custom installed.

I have one on my 5507

Welp, just bought my second so I guess I'm really in the club now. Been playing a Skyline 55-02 Deluxe for a while and have been going around in circles over what to get as a second 5-string so I can rotate one into the shop and still rehearse/gig. Saw this 55-60 on Reverb and thought, heck I like jazz basses and I love my Lakland.

Have not owned a passive bass in a long time but I love some of the sounds I'm hearing on YouTube.
