Thanks a lot! I really love it.Excellent!
If there's anything the remainder of us can do to assist you, let us know. Collectively we know a lot about these basses!
Wouldn’t 2008 still have Lindy Fralins if it’s stock? If they’re Lindy Fralins, then standard 5 string jazz style pickups should work. You can always measure yours to double check sizes. Most manufacturers are pretty good about publishing the physical sizes of their pickups.Hey fellow Lakland owners,
I have a 2008 Joe Osborn 5, and it's honestly one of the best basses I've ever owned.
I've even owned an Alleva-Coppolo LG5 in the past, and this bass is right up there with it.
I'm thinking about replacing the stock Lakland pickups with a set of Lollar Jazz Bass 5-String pickups, but I'm not sure if they'll be a direct fit.
Has anyone here done this swap on a Joe Osborn 5 or USA 55-60?
Any advice, measurements, or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks for the comment.
I checked the pickups and it seems mine has Lakland Originals rather than Lindy Fralins.
If I remember correctly, the Fralin-era basses had 19mm spacing at the bridge, right?
I'm pretty sure the switch from Fralins was made in 2007 in the J basses. The Glaub/Dunn/64 pickup switch was maybe 2008.Wouldn’t 2008 still have Lindy Fralins if it’s stock? Definitely looks the part of a super bass! After i for the 55-01 set up with the Aguilar Super Doubles, I went through a couple of preamps trying to find that bite i was looking for. They're great pickups, but just like in the Spector I took them out of, they were darker than what i wanted here. I swapped the Darkglass out for an EMG BQC so i could tweak the mids a bit better and have actual highs, but that didn't do it. So i bought a set of Nordstrand Big Blades from the classifieds here and got them installed tonight. Wow! This thing just became the Super J bass i always wanted. They play really well with the BQC pre. Lots of bottom, lots of bite, and a very tuneable burp in the mids. This may be the best project bass I've ever done!

Yeah, the pic I posted was from the inside back cover of that book, they were giving one away. Apparently a few were made for promo but I never heard more about them. It’s on the cover of American Basses by Jim Robert’s. A pretty great book!View attachment 7526985![]()
