Is there a thread that discuss about custom Lakland?, what I mean about custom is completely custom, not just about changing your finish, top material, or maybe upgrading pickup, but changing your pickup position, adding a third position pickup, or maybe a completely custom body shape, you know, something that we cannot found on Lakland website about customizing your instrument.
Because now and then, I find some unusual Lakland that floating here on TB (Lakland and Carl's bass)
The reason why I ask is that, I happened to have a chance to buy a used Lakland neck, a 44-60 skyline, I wanted to start a project from it, and I don't want to fake a production line, so I'm looking for some inspiration.
Maybe some wacky shape with pink polka-dot body that goes well with Lakland headstock..:)

Do you have any specific ideas?

there are a few "custom" Lakies out there and carl has built several (I have 2 and others I know have multiple Carlo basses).

See what they say....multiple and different pickup locaitons should not be a huge issue with the in-house CNC machine.

a Tele bass shape? would be cool...they might be able to do that.

My only comment is that the bass would be pricey and I am not sure if it is worth the price for a Skyline neck (not that I have any issues with Skyline necks - I have several!)....if the neck were a US neck a custom seems more practical...just my 2 cents....

Just put a new set of Sadowsky Black Label flats on White Lightening and a set of Medium Marcus Miller strings on my sunburst PJ (BOTH sets purchased from Bassstringsonline.com - GREAT prices and service from them!)

Makes the basses sound all new again.....

love the new string feel and sound!

I dunno Doug. I just checked their site. They offer free shipping. But, they charge $2 more for my favorite DR 4 string set and $3 more for the 5 string set, compared to juststrings. BUT, their single DR string prices KILLED juststrings prices!! I'll be ordering my single 110s and 125s from Bassstrings for sure!

They offer discounts for TB members...[emoji6] you need to sign up to get the good pricing.....I got these pretty reasonably

I was at BPL today in Hollywood, very fun, loud, much like NAMM.
D Lakin was supposed to be here, but I didn't see him or his basses.
Actually emerged from it all GAS free. Which I don't know how that happened. Maybe I'm getting old.

Actually, de-coupling your cab from the floor makes a huge diff.* Doesn't have to be a Gramma pad. I've also used those amp stands (mostly designed for guitards) that raise the cab off the floor and aim the sound at your head. Lately my fav cabs have been the EV LiveX powered 1x12 (can't remember the model name). I use them as you would a vocal monitor with their built in HPF "on" and even cut more low end rolled off with the fDeck HPF III. More low end rolled off if I forget to bring my Gramma!

Now, I know what you're thinking: "Man, I bet his tone is really thin and trebley." And yes, to a degree it is when soloed. But on a stage and everybody's playing I can hear myself well and in the mix the tone is full. Key words are in the mix. Can't stress that enough: In the mix! I also send any soundman an unaffected (Uneffected? I can never remember.) signal because his/her needs are different from mine.


*On stage low end just messes up the whole mix out front. If you work regularly with a soundman I suggest you try a few different things and see what works best.

I refined my knob making process and got a much better end result. This started as Redheart and Maple block and strip that I glued together yesterday. Today I cut them to shape and size, recessed the brass dot sanded and waxed them. I like the that they look with the maple fret board. I have a Padauk/maple/Padauk piece setting up for another set.
