Decided to get the Hanson vintage in my LOG bass and was very happily surprised at how much like a fralin it sounded to my ears....

Do....IMHO...they are very compatible sounding.

I would underline here that Doug is talking about the vintage Hanson P pickup (which I have and love in my US Glaub/Dunn. The neopunch Hanson P pickup, which comes standard in Lakland P basses, has more upper-mid and treble bite to it.

Another 5501 transmogrification done. Lovin' it. I got it used with active Aggie soapbars/OBP-3. The work was done by my friend Montreal luthier Michel Fournel's shop. I had 'em remove the 'lectronix, install a passive Lace alumitone split coil and wire it passive vol/tone. The new PG covers the rout and the 1 hole not covered was used as a master toggle mute. It's wearing Fender flats and sounds like a perfect P for me :-)))) I was gonna have it refinished but when I decided to go P with flats, leaving the burst was a no-brainer for me. Oh, and it went from 8.8 lbs to 8.0 even....plays and sounds like joyfulness! I'll try and take a decent pic later....

Hi all, I just wanted to ask a question, maybe a bit off topic,
Is there a thread that discuss about custom Lakland?, what I mean about custom is completely custom, not just about changing your finish, top material, or maybe upgrading pickup, but changing your pickup position, adding a third position pickup, or maybe a completely custom body shape, you know, something that we cannot found on Lakland website about customizing your instrument.
Because now and then, I find some unusual Lakland that floating here on TB (Lakland and Carl's bass)
The reason why I ask is that, I happened to have a chance to buy a used Lakland neck, a 44-60 skyline, I wanted to start a project from it, and I don't want to fake a production line, so I'm looking for some inspiration.
Maybe some wacky shape with pink polka-dot body that goes well with Lakland headstock..:)

That doesn't sound like something I'd expect Lakland to do.

They'll likely do things like unique color, if you work directly with Pat Wilkins yourself, or a different body wood, but I wouldn't hold out for anything too crazy outta the factory. Of course, you won't know unless you ask.

Hmm...maybe not from the factory, I recall (couldn't find the pic) some 55 neck with crazy carved body that some employee made for himself, or triple MM pickup that Carl made, I know...not a Lakland...or few post ago, a 55 single P pickup with unusual pickguard shape.

somehow, I just have an idea...

Well, not a surprise if Lakland interprets many of Leo F* design, most...but not yet a tele bass.
What if...a Lakland with a tele shape bass?...I think too much...it's 11pm and having trouble sleeping just to thing about it.

ps, I will not work with Pat, nor Lakland, because I'm in so much different time zone...:), I will ask a buddy of mine to build me a body, that's why I don't wanna fake a production line.

Well, my friend selling his 44-60 neck, in the process of negotiation as we speak...
and I have a pair of Nordy BS, I have a BAII bridge that I force him (the guy that selling his neck) to trade with his Lakland bridge...:)

Btw, I do have a 55-02, but nothing in the world that could force me to pull a part a perfectly great bass like my 55-02...thanks for the suggestion though...hehe.
