I need to make a trip where you are......we need to share stories, a rare bit of elk and whiskey!

All this talk of Scotch and Bourbon is making me thirsty. My current stock is JW Double Black, Scapa, Crown XR, Four Roses Small Batch, and Orphan Barrel Old Blowhard. I've found the Four Roses is pretty harsh, but the rest are really smooth.

Yeah-I like 4 Roses as well. All bourbon has some degree of bite to it, as opposed to the smoothness of good scotch....perhaps that's why I prefer bourbon.

All of the basses "have this problem". The coils of all the pickups are split at about the same place as the A string (for hum cancelling).

But playing styles have a lot to do with how noticeable it is. I personally do not notice it but others do.

I am really not sure what the "cure" is....any split coil pickup will have a common issue.

Carl Pedigo mentioned it to me but he says he struggles with a solution (if you want a quiet bass).

That was the deal with the Carribean burst bass. The LH-3 pickups had a noticeable volume level difference string to string. Carl's solution was to have some single coils made in MM J casings, and I couldn't be happier!....and I mean, they're a little bit louder but nothing crazy.

Only split coil J pups. Single coils are fine, which is what Carl did for @morebassbaby

The pickups in my bass have dual coil instead of quad coil in the humbucker and a single coil neck J pickup for that reason. There is slight bit of noise only noticeable in certain situations but I guess that's the sacrifice to remedy the quieter A string.

Guess I'll need to dig out the ole passport and see if it is still valid then!

Some Scotches have a "bite" as well....like the nadurra....had some the other night....oh man!!! heaven!

This is not the first person to claim something like that, but funnily enough, no one ever produced any evidence.

Well the old pickups were Fralin and Bartolni so everyone knows where those are made. And the hardware is Hipshot and we all know where those are made. So the question is really just about the bodies and necks and while they have not come out and named the factory they have said it is a US factory. Sadowsky does the same thing. And as has been stated by Lakland they have recently started using a CNC to do the bodies and necks themselves. There are photos to prove that so I don't see how they can say it's not true.

I actually know what factory makes (or made at one time) Lakland bodies and necks. They also make a lot of other U.S. builders' stuff. I know a guy who used to work there... It's definitely not in Korea

Funnily enough a similar topic came up on the LOG recently. Lakland actually responded and there was recently an article in one of the Chicago papers about how Lakland is Made in the USA (skylines, shorelines excluded, obviously).

Yes. Yes, it's true. Is this what you wanted to hear? Does that make you feel better? (Not specifically "you" mmbongo. Just everybody with some kinda weird-ass grudge. Not saying you have a weird-ass grudge....I mean the guy who originally posted that. I'm making the hole deeper, aren't I?? )

Every now and again one of my kids (I've got two.) will say the inevitable "You love him/her (the sibling) more than me!" And I'll say, "Yes. Yes, I do. Is that what you want to hear? Does that make you feel better now, in some weird way, to hear that? We love both you guys the same. Now shut up and go get me a beer and fix me a pot pie you little rugrat!!" And they'll just give me a weird look like I'm nuts (which I am) and go about their business.

Folks are going to believe what they believe. All you can do go about your business in a honest way and treat others like you'd like to be treated. Which is exactly what, in my personal experience, Lakland does. But don't take my word for it. Create your own experience and draw your own conclusions.
