Going to second this. The pre in the 01 series is the weak link. Go with the Nordstrand pre upgrade first, then consider new pickups.

And yeah i really can't go passive especially because i play with different bass amps. some are great and some belong to a trash can. So active electronics can at least help me have my sound everytime, or as close as i can. I wish i was like jaco that sounded like jaco no matter what haha. but i am not so i have to stick with actives. Thanks for your help again guys!

The silk on my 4 string starts about 1 3/8" beyond the nut so 37" would make it but it's easier to just use the 38"

I wasnt meaning to disagree with you, just talking more generally to *-01 owners. I have removed bad preamps from basses and heard massive tone improvements, and many people will prefer the rounder sound of a passive bass even though they are used to being sold active basses.

It's all good, just a bit of friendly discourse. I agree with your points about passive being a good solution when you have a bad pre.

I've used pretty much every preamp out there and I'm at the point where I'm finding myself switching into passive mode more often now - and that's with a very nice pre installed

BTW - the Norstrand 3b-5a preamp that mumar is looking to get has a volume pull passive pot, so those that want active and/or passive can get the best of both worlds

Anybody put their hands on the new 2015 Skylines yet.....more specifically the Vintage Cream 44-01? I've been GAS'n for a fretless for a bit now. Since it won't be a "main player", maybe a once in a blue moon bass, I thought going the more economical route on a Skyline would be better option then grabbing a used USA Lakland. I really dig the vintage cream color!!!

This is pretty close... The video shows the 44-51, but I used another p bass with Howard Ulyate's pickup in the audio recording. I articulated the transient using an SVT classic module in ProTools.

It kinda just fell in my lap... Never even considered it before. I always thought of them as some eclectic college rock band that had a couple of hits. Then I landed this gig... Damn, cool bass lines that are all over the place!

And then, we play these shows and people are singing EVERY word to EVERY song! Whod've thunk it!!! Best part is I get to play my 44-51 (and the Rickenbacker, and any other P basses that are floating around...)

And then, we play these shows and people are singing EVERY word to EVERY song! Whod've thunk it!!! Best part is I get to play my 44-51 (and the Rickenbacker, and any other P basses that are floating around...)

cool...I kind of thought the same thing....but yeah - cool bass lines...man on the moon is a fav "late night" - end practice song for me.

This was posted on Ebay, no bids. I made the seller an offer and he took it.
The black paint was in bad shape. I knew I was going to have it refinished, so I was fine with it.
I like old Fenders, and I like the look of the long stem tuners. I called Hipshot, and they were able to send me new longer stems that work on the Ultralites.
I knew I wanted a Chisonic. Never REALLY played through a humbucker. We added a push/pull to split the coils
I hated the original pickguard. It was more brown then red. Kevin cut a new one
I had Texan/Clay make me a set of Padauk knobs, then decided it needed a matching thumbrest. He nailed both.
At the last minute I decided I am this far. I am going to have Kevin change the dots to abalone

Got to say, pretty darn magnificent! Nice work on the transformation and kudos to Texan for some nice work once again.

Oh, heck yeah. Mike Mills is a seriously underrated bassist. I learned a bunch of his lines back in the mid-late '80s.
